Luke Combs stopped by the Joe Rogan Experience podcast to discuss a variety of topics, from his meteoric ascent to become one of country music's biggest names, to his upcoming album, Gettin’ Old.

While chatting to Rogan about his entry into the industry, Luke Combs underlined how he initially doubted whether someone that didn't have Nashville's typically chiselled, cookie-cutter image would be able to make it as a solo artist.

He humbly explained, “Everybody that was doing music when I moved to town was hot, dude - 6 foot 5 with abs. I mean, I didn’t have a chance, bro. I didn’t have a chance”.

Combs went on to emphasise that he subsequently planned to become a songwriter instead, but one key moment shifted his perception of what it took to become a country star.

He outlined, “Chris Stapleton singing ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ with Justin Timberlake at the CMAs was an earth-shattering moment for country music. That opened the door up for guys like myself - somebody who didn’t look like every other guy in town”.

At other points during Combs’ high-profile appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, he delved into his struggles with Pure OCD, which he's spoken about in the past.

He laid out the way in which it still affects him today, “There are these unanswered questions in your mind that can never be answered. The ritual is trying to find an answer...The obsession becomes, ‘Why did I have that thought?’”.

Combs also spoke to Rogan about the creative process behind his upcoming record, Gettin’ Old, the importance he places on honesty within his team, the state of country music as a whole and more.

The North Carolina hitmaker's appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience coincided with the release of his brand new single, ‘5 Leaf Clover’, which will appear on Gettin’ Old.
