Lauren Watkins has shared a brand new track across her socials, entitled ‘Fool Me Twice’.
The unreleased song, which Lauren penned alongside Tucker Beathard, is a reflective, wistful musing on a partner who continues to lie to his girlfriend, thinking she's none the wiser.
In a tragic twist, Lauren portrays the perspective of the girlfriend, who knows exactly what he's up to when he stumbles through the door in the small hours of the morning.
However, she simply can't bring herself to leave as she'll miss him too much, deciding to instead accept this cycle of deception (“Fool me once, shame on you / Fool me twice, that's fine too / You reach out, I'll pick up / You play me, I'll play dumb”).
It's a melancholic offering that once again demonstrates the country prodigy's storytelling prowess, and Lauren's ability to slip seamlessly into the shoes of a plethora of different characters.
Although Lauren Watkins has written a number of songs for other artists, we're hoping she keeps ‘Fool Me Twice’ for herself, as she continues to hone her eagerly awaited debut album. Listeners will also be keeping their fingers crossed that other previously teased unreleased songs, such as ‘Cowboys On Music Row’.
It'll no doubt continue the momentum built from the Tennessee native's 2023 EP, Introducing: Lauren Watkins, which she released back in April to widespread acclaim and fanfare.
