When the Twisters: The Movie album dropped in full, featuring a star-studded cast of country artists including Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Miranda Lambert and more, fans were virtually unanimous that this was one of the most impressive soundtracks in recent memory.
Thankfully, the stellar project is getting some high-profile recognition from the Academy Awards, with Lainey Wilson's contribution to the Twisters: The Movie project, ‘Out Of Oklahoma’, being included on the newly released shortlist for the Oscar for Best Original Song.
‘Out Of Oklahoma’ is a sinuous, serpentine offering that finds Lainey Wilson celebrating the idea that you never truly leave your roots behind, through a witty turn-of-phrase (“Can't take the home out of Oklahoma / It's where my soul was born to be”.
It oozes the ominous, brooding feel that pervades the movie itself, which stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones as two storm-chasers. As well as tying in neatly with the plot of the film, ‘Out Of Oklahoma’ also laid the foundation perfectly for Lainey Wilson's latest musical era, Whirlwind, which found the ‘Hang Tight Honey’ singer-songwriter framing her meteoric rise as a wild, hurricane-like experience.
To triumph in the Best Original Song category would be an incredible feat for Lainey Wilson, but not altogether unsurprising, given the ‘Heart Like a Truck’ hitmaker's unstoppable ascent to become one of the biggest names in modern country music.
‘Out Of Oklahoma’ is joined in the Best Original Song category by ‘Beyond’ from Moana 2, ’Forbidden Road’ from Better Man, ‘Tell Me It's You’ from Mufasa: The Lion King and more.
The 2025 Academy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, March 10th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, with some of the most prominent films from the past year, such as Wicked and Emilie Pérez, vying for a slew of coveted Oscar gongs.
