Lainey Wilson made a welcome return as Abby during the explosive finale of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, which aired last night (Sunday, December 15th).
The ‘Heart Like a Truck’ hitmaker first appeared in the hit neo-Western series back in November 2022 for Season 5 Part 1, with Lainey Wilson performing a couple of songs at the Dutton Ranch and launching an endearing romance with Ryan, played by Ian Bohen.
Fans had been speculating as to whether Lainey Wilson would be making an appearance in the final instalment of Yellowstone. In the lead-up to Sunday's finale, it was looking less likely, with the plot being geared towards uncovering the fate of the Dutton Ranch in the wake of the shocking death of John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner.
However, to viewers’ delight, Lainey Wilson made her Yellowstone return towards the end of the finale, Life Is a Promise, as she stepped back into Abby's boots for a rowdy, energising performance recorded at the legendary Billy Bob's in Texas.
As the future of the ranch became clearer, Ryan attends one of Abby's concerts, making his way to the front of the crowd as she delivers an electric rendition of ‘Hang Tight Honey’, one of the stand-outs from Wilson's 2024 studio album, Whirlwind.
Backstage, Abby and Ryan share a sweet moment as the latter jokes about what comes next for him, now that the Dutton Ranch's destiny is sealed and John has been laid to rest. He wonders if he should take up a job as one of Abby's road-crew, before Abby teasingly remarks, “Come on, let me introduce you to life on the bus”.
Without giving too much away, elsewhere during the blockbuster Yellowstone finale, viewers were treated to two hours of stellar, high-emotion, action-packed storytelling, as the multi-generational tapestry of the Dutton family reached its defining chapter.
Thankfully, while there are still rumours that a Season 6 of Yellowstone might be in the works, one thing that is more certain is the fact that you'll be able to continue enjoying the complex yet enchanting love-story between Beth and Rip, played by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, with a forthcoming spin-off starring the duo confirmed.
The second season of Yellowstone prequel, 1923, has also been given a release date of February 23rd, 2025 while fans can look forward to another spin-off, titled The Madison, coming soon too. While last night's episode seems - for the time being - to be the last we'll see of the main Yellowstone series, rest assured there's plenty still to come from Taylor Sheridan's beloved Dutton universe.
