After gifting fans a stellar, 24-song live album on her birthday (October 9th), it's only right that Megan Moroney was also treated to a few presents herself on her special day.
But what to get the person who has it all? Moroney's close friend and ‘You Had To Be There’ collaborator, Kenny Chesney, came through with an incredibly unique present.
Chesney gifted Moroney a vintage 1984 hummingbird guitar - which would've been a lovely present in itself - but the No Shoes Nation legend went a step further by getting the unofficial Queen of Country, Dolly Parton, to sign it especially for Moroney.
Taking to Instagram to share a photo of the guitar, which reads, “To Megan, Love, Dolly Parton”, Moroney has gushed, “@kennychesney with the most insane bday gift...a vintage 1984 hummingbird signed by dolly...screaming, crying, throwing up”.
The two country singer-songwriters have been pals ever since they teamed up for Chesney's expansive Sun Goes Down Tour last summer, with Moroney joining the ‘I Go Back’ hitmaker each night to perform the iconic ‘She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy’.
On the final tour-stop in Foxborough, Massachussetts, Chesney heartwarmingly surprised Moroney by inviting her to perform her single, ‘Am I Okay?’, in front of the packed-out Gillette Stadium. It served as an endearing snapshot into their friendship, with Moroney championing Chesney as a source of wisdom for her.
Just last week on Therapuss with Jake Shane, Moroney underlined how much of a positive influence Chesney has been so far, “He's become such a close friend and mentor. And there was a time where I was really crashing out over this article that got posted. And a lot of it wasn't true, Kenny came to my house because he was like, ‘You need to chill out. You're building something so special, the connection you have with your fans, and you are letting these people eat your lunch’”.
She went on, “So, he just came over and hyped me up. My parents were in town. And so, my parents thanked him a million times for coming and doing that because he just talked some sense into me when I was crashing out. But it's so nice to have, a friend like Kenny. He's been through it all, he knows what it's like to have people talk bad about him and even anything, really, because he's been doing it for so long. So, he always has the best advice. And he talked some sense into me. None of that matters. What matters is my songwriting, my fans, and my path”.
Particularly given how judgemental and unforgiving the music industry can be for up-and-coming female artists, it's been lovely to see Chesney helping Moroney navigate the various challenges of being a new country star. We're hoping ‘You Had To Be There’ isn't the only collaboration we get to hear from this dynamic duo, and that there are plenty more on-stage link-ups and studio duets on the horizon.
