It's the moment we've all been waiting for. Kaitlin Butts has officially unleashed the visual accompaniment to her Roadrunner! hit, 'You Ain't Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)'.
The music video for the vengeful viral tune could have played out a multitude of ways, with some deserving ex-beau getting swarmed by bees, mauled by bears or hit by a train, like in the song.
Instead, Butts has planted viewers in the middle of the Wild West, setting a bygone scene of horse-drawn buggies, heartbreaking bandits and bedazzled gunslingers. Butts, herself, portrays the red-hot, line-dancing outlaw, "Kissin' Katie B," among them.
Directed and produced by Chris Beyrooty, and apparently inspired by the film Holes, Django Unchained and Chicago, the 'You Ain't Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)' music video is certainly a cinematic affair, seeing a cast of characters – one of them is Butts' husband, Flatland Cavalry frontman Cleto Cordero starring as "Man of Poor Luck" – as they get their just deserts against an arid, unforgiving landscape.
'You Ain't Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)' – written by Butts alongside Natalie Hemby – arrived last summer as a part of Butts' 17-track studio release, Roadrunner! The song, however, did not begin to see its success until a soundbite of the tune went viral across social media, with fellow country stars like Avery Anna, Ella Langley, Lainey Wilson and more seen lip-syncing the sharp chorus.
The song was even thought to have soundtracked the high-profile breakup between country-folk golden boy Zach Bryan and influencer Brianna LaPaglia.
Since its initial viral spark, the song has been seemingly inescapable in the world of country music, its singer offering enthusiastic showcases of the tune during all of her live shows.
As she joins Lainey Wilson for her upcoming Whirlwind Tour outings, perhaps fans will get to experience even more of the wonderfully vindictive smash hit. Maybe ... hopefully!
