Jelly Roll has shared the official music video for his brand new song, ‘Liar’. The track is expected to join the previously released ‘I Am Not Okay’ on his forthcoming studio album.
The newly unveiled visuals capture the drama and gravitas that pervade the song itself, with Jelly Roll delivering the soul-baring lines against a backdrop of a broken home. These shots are interspersed with scenes where Jelly is directing the lyrics at a sinister, Machiavellian version of himself in the mirror.
Jelly lays his heart on his sleeve as he addresses the camera, listing all the lies he's been told, either by an ex or by the Devil on his shoulder (“Money makes you happy / Heaven isn't real / You won't find nobody to love / Because your heart's too broke”).
‘Liar’ continues in the vulnerable, honest vein of ‘I Am Not Okay’, which found Jelly Roll opening up about his mental health struggles, before offering a powerful message of hope.
Jelly Roll performed the live debut of ’Liar’ during a momentous Grand Ole Opry appearance earlier in the year, with Jelly then bringing the choral, gospel-tinged anthem to the ACM Awards stage in May for another rousing, uplifting rendition of the track.
Although the Nashville singer-songwriter is yet to announce his keenly awaited Whitsitt Chapel follow-up, the rollout for the new project seems to be picking up pace. Jelly Roll has previously revealed he's written around 100 songs, with the ‘Need A Favor’ hitmaker attempting to whittle down the list to an album's worth of material.
The arrival of ‘Liar’ follows Jelly Roll's surprise MGK collaboration, ‘Lonely Road’, which dropped last Friday (July 26) and interpolates John Denver's ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’.
