After a blockbuster year since his very first country award show, Jelly Roll claimed the award for the Performance of the Year at the 2024 CMT Awards.
At the thrilling 2023 show, which also saw him secure an astounding three trophies, the first-time attendee took the stage to play his eventual smash hit, 'Need A Favor', for the first time, backed by a goosebump-inducing choir. It's this performance that paved the way for his 2024 win.
Making his way on stage to accept the award, Jelly Roll, in what's becoming his signature fashion, gave quite the rousing speech, saying: "I love you Austin, Texas. This is a moment that I want to thank the fans for everything they've done for me".
Looking back on last year's show, he added: "One year ago I was invited to perform at my first awards show. I walked on this stage and I sang 'Need A Favor' for the first time on national television right here... Last year, you had changed my life in every way I would've never thought my life could be changed."
Amidst a highly contentious group of nominees, Jelly Roll beat out Amber Riley's 'R.E.S.P.E.C.T.' (from CMT Smashing Glass), Bret Michaels & Chris Janson's 'Nothing But a Good Time' (from CMT Crossroads), Carrie Underwood's 'Hate My Heart' (from 2023 CMT Music Awards), Cody Johnson's 'Human' (from 2023 CMT Music Awards), Dierks Bentley's 'Drunk On A Plane' (from CMT Storytellers), Dustin Lynch & MacKenzie Porter's 'Thinking ‘Bout You' (from CMT Campfire Sessions), Hozier & Maren Morris' 'Take Me To Church' (from CMT Crossroads), Kelsea Ballerini's 'If You Go Down (I’m Goin’ Down Too)' (from 2023 CMT Music Awards) and The War And Treaty's 'On My Own' (from CMT Smashing Glass).
During the star-studded evening, the 2024 CMT Awards enjoyed captivating performances from Kelsea Ballerini, who did double duty as the night's sole host, as well as Parker McCollum & Brittney Spencer, Trisha Yearwood, Bailey Zimmerman and more.
