It's safe to say it's been a storied couple of years for Jelly Roll, but this weekend, the ‘Need A Favor’ hitmaker fulfilled a childhood dream by appearing in WWE SummerSlam 2024.
Originally, Jelly Roll was only set to perform his new single, ’Liar’, at the event, which remains one of the biggest wrestling events of the year. After weeks of teasers, Jelly made the emphatic, soul-baring track available to stream on Friday (August 2).
However, during a fight between The Miz, R-Truth, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller, the Nashville native stunned the Cleveland Browns Stadium crowd by leaping into the ring.
Drawing off the energy of the 57,000 fans screaming around him, Jelly Roll proceeded to choke-slam Austin Theory, before teaming up with The Miz and R-Truth to deliver the Five-Knuckle Shuffle - a move associated with WWE legend, John Cena.
Elsewhere during the fierce contest between The Awesome Truth - The Miz and R-Truth's tag-team - and A-Town Down Under - Austin Theory and Grayson Waller's duo name - Jelly provided another assist by whacking Grayson with a chair.
John Cena later offered his stamp of approval to Jelly Roll, as well as hinting at a future link-up in the ring, sharing via socials, “Have listened to his music, had the privilege of spending some time with him, and now know I have a GREAT option for a tag team partner anytime WWE comes to Nashville! Jelly Roll's Time is Now!!!!”
As a result, fans are now speculating - and hoping - John Cena, who made a momentous return at WWE WrestleMania XL in April, may indeed team up with Jelly Roll at a future event.
Jelly's involvement was lapped up by attendees, with the ‘Son of a Sinner’ singer-songwriter taking to X (formerly Twitter) after the WWE extravaganza to express how special the moment was for him, “Crazy- I lived a child hood dream tonight in the craziest way I’ve ever lived it...Wow Man thank you WWE for everything. What a night”.
It's not the first time Jelly Roll has made a surprise cameo at a WWE event, with the genre-blending artist helping Randy Orton at the WWE Royal Rumble in his home-state last year.
