In a new video shared through Spotify, Morgan Wallen has revealed how his infectious, heartbroken collaboration with Post Malone, ‘I Ain't Comin‘ Back’, came about.
The uptempo ode finds Wallen and Post quipping that they're not like Jesus Christ because once they left, they “ain't comin’ back”, referencing Jesus’ resurrection. The star-studded track's release was aptly timed for Good Friday (April 18th 2025).
During this new interview released via Spotify, Morgan Wallen has explained that ‘I Ain't Comin’ Back’ is one of the many songs the Sneedville megastar penned with Post Malone, when the latter was working on his debut country album, F-1Trillion, last year. Seth England previously revealed they wrote seven tracks together in their first studio session, with fans clamouring to hear more from the prolific duo.
Wallen reflected, “Yeah, ‘I Ain't Comin’ Back’ with Post on it. This was written during the time when Post was working on his album. I've always loved this song, and I told him, like, ‘Hey, if you don't put this on your album, then I'm gonna put it on mine’”.
The ‘Love Somebody’ chart-topper went on to recall why ‘I Had Some Help’, which ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks, was ultimately chosen for F-1Trillion instead, “‘I Had Some Help’ just seemed like a more obvious, straight-down-the-middle, ‘this song is a hit’ type song, so [Post] ended up putting that on his record”.
Despite not being selected for Post Malone's project, Morgan Wallen stressed that ‘I Ain't Comin’ Back’ struck a chord with him, “But I love this song too, I love what it says, there's a lot of cool imagery, and you know, me as a Christian, I think any time that I can throw a little hint of that in my music, I'm always all for it. It's a good one”.
‘I Ain't Comin’ Back’ has secured the highest debut of the week on both Spotify's Global and US charts, with the addictive earworm seemingly on track to emulate the success of ‘I Had Some Help’ in the coming weeks. The offering was co-written by Wallen, Post, Louis Bell, HARDY, ERNEST and Ryan Vojtesak (Charlie Handsome).
It's set to be joined on Morgan Wallen's highly anticipated new album, I'm the Problem, by an array of other blockbuster duets, including a genre-blending collaboration with Tate McRae, ‘What I Want’, as well as link-ups with HARDY, ERNEST and Eric Church. The sprawling, 37-song project arrives on Friday, May 16th 2025.
