Hot on the heels of dropping two brand new singles ahead of his fourth studio album, ‘Just in Case’ and ‘I'm a Little Crazy’, Morgan Wallen has explained what drew him to the latter.
The ‘Love Somebody’ chart-topper has touched on why the haunting, gritty offering, which was co-written by his good buddy, HARDY, alongside Smith Ahnquist, Hunter Phelps and Jameson Rodgers, resonated with him when he first heard the demo.
“That's a song that HARDY sent to me”, the ‘7 Summers’ singer-songwriter explains, “It's been a while ago now. I've always loved it. Just the stripped-back style of the song, you know, that's kind of how the demo was and we stuck...we stayed true to that”.
Morgan Wallen highlights how the underlying message of ‘I'm a Little Crazy’ struck a chord with him, with Wallen expressing a sentiment that he believes is shared by many others.
Morgan Wallen muses, “You know, it says what a lot of people feel, but still in a classy way, so I think that's what drew me to the song first of all, just how intelligent the lyrics were”.
‘I'm a Little Crazy’ finds Morgan Wallen stepping into the shoes of a downtrodden, weather-worn protagonist, who admits to possessing a number of quirks and oddities, before emphasising that this is nothing compared to the ‘insanity’ of the world today.
It conveys a sense of being jaded by the constant flurry of negative news, and implies a feeling of discontent with how society has developed in recent years, with ‘I'm a Little Crazy’ also depicting the weary narrator as being a misunderstood outcast.
Although ‘I'm a Little Crazy’ follows a fictional protagonist, given how the media has often portrayed Morgan Wallen as being a ‘wild child’ over the years due to his off-stage antics, it's not difficult to see how this admission of “I'm a little crazy / But the world's insane” could certainly be interpreted as capturing Wallen's own outlook.
The ‘Thought You Should Know‘ crooner concludes by stressing, “[‘I'm a Little Crazy’] was really fun to sing in the studio and I'm glad that everyone in my team is rallying around the song, it just sees like it's a real focus for this album and I'm excited about that”.
Indeed, ‘I'm a Little Crazy’ has been chosen as the final track on Morgan Wallen's forthcoming record, I'm the Problem, which drops on May 16th, coinciding with the first day of Wallen's inaugural Sand in My Boots Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Due to his close friendship and collaborative track record with Morgan Wallen, we're sure this won't be the only HARDY writing credit on I'm the Problem - and we're also keeping our fingers crossed that there will be a duet in the mould of ‘In the Bible’, ‘Red’ and ‘He Went to Jared’ tucked away in the highly anticipated project's tracklist.
