For the past few weeks, Kenny Chesney has been teasing a major announcement, with his No Shoes Nation fans reaching for their metaphorical Sherlock Holmes deer-stalking caps as they attempted to deduce what Chesney has up his sleeve.
Initially, there was the cryptic photo from rehearsals earlier in January, which suggested there might be a 2025 tour reveal in the works, but then Kenny Chesney issued an official statement confirming he had big news to share later this week.
The tone of the message seemingly implied that Chesney's forthcoming projects will somehow tie together the dual importance of his electric live shows and recorded music. The ‘Take Her Home’ hitmaker is set to elaborate on what he's got up his sleeve on the TODAY show and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday (January 16th), but it seems the cat may already be out of the bag.
One of the rumours was that Kenny Chesney might be gearing up for a Las Vegas residency, and judging by a new post shared by the official Sphere page, it seems this might be the case. The famous venue, which is shaped like a giant orb, is designed to create unrivalled immersive experiences, with artists such as U2, Phish and Dead & Company all hosting blockbuster shows at the Sphere in recent years.
The Sphere Instagram page has uploaded a video of the venue, with the unmistakable exterior displaying waves crashing over a beach, before revealing what appears to be Kenny Chesney's signature blue chair, then a guitar, and finally a cowboy hat.
The chair has become inextricably associated with Kenny Chesney, ever since he released his lauded 2005 album, Be As You Are: Songs From An Old Blue Chair, off the back of which Chesney launched his wildly popular rum brand, Blue Chair Bay Rum.
The Tennessee crooner has hosted brief stints in Vegas before, such as in 2018 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, but if the Sphere's tantalising clues indicate what we think they do, this would mark the first time Kenny Chesney is hosting a full-scale Vegas residency.
Of course, we'll have to wait until Kenny Chesney's TODAY Show and The Tonight Show appearances before we get official confirmation, and we're hoping Chesney has a couple of other projects in the works, such as a potential third live album, a deluxe version of BORN and a broader tour, alongside this potential Vegas residency. Either way, 2025 already shaping up to be a colossal year for the country legend.
