Morgan Wallen has hit the headlines a lot recently.
Ahead of the release of his new album, I'm The Problem, speculation around the record has peaked after he confirmed that his as-yet released track from it, ‘What I Want’, would be a duet with a female artist.
On Friday (April 12), Wallen was on everyone’s lips again as he’s dropped the first video from what he’s calling ‘The Shop Sessions’.
“Found a badass old auto shop and recorded some songs from the new album with my band,” Wallen captioned the teaser, “the first one, “Just In Case (The Shop Sessions),” is out now on YouTube.”
The video racked up 20,000 views in its first hour, showing just how hungry Wallen fans are for his new music.
The video is exactly as described – Wallen and his band set up in an old workshop against a backdrop of mechanical tools, dusty windows and spare tyres all while he serenades us with an ever emotive vocal line.
This version of 'Just In Case' strips back the sparse beats and eerie guitar lines for something rockier and more-textured from the studio recording, in some ways accentuating Wallen's lyricism.
Whether any of these versions will entirely replicate the studio recordings we'll just have to see, but the full band approach here certainly suggests that Wallen is keen to exhibit the different sides of both of the song's personality and his own.
With his album set to release in May, might we see a new track in these session videos before the full record drops?
The ‘Last Night’ singer has released session videos before, including ‘The Dangerous Sessions’, ‘One Record At A Time Sessions’ and more recently, his ‘Live From Abbey Road Studios 2024’.
Wallen has had a lot of success previously with this style of acoustic session, and fans will certainly be keen to see which other tracks he’ll release in this style.
