Semi-accurate, or way off-base?
It feels like Forrest Frank has been catching heat from all corners of the Contemporary Christian Music world of late, after his outspoken comments about the validity of awards shows - which drew flak from Jelly Roll, among others - so it's nice to see the ‘GOOD DAY’ hitmaker involved in a more playful, light-hearted story.
Forrest has taken to the comments to respond to Christian YouTubers PD and Shama, who described his music by joking, “He's like Morgan Wallen if he never found alcohol”, adding, “Morgan Wallen minus the alcohol and slurs”. Forrest has commented, “Morgan Wallen minus the alcohol” with a laughing-crying emoji.
We're glad Forrest sees the funny side of this, with the comparison clearly meant to be tongue-in-cheek, and a reference to the way in which both artists incorporate trap beats.
Other than that, though, we're not sure Forrest and Morgan have too much in common musically. The former's sound permeated by an unmistakably joyful, celebratory ambience and light, breezy textures, while the latter's catalogue is - as PD and Shama noted - full of whiskey-soaked lyricism and darker, brooding narratives.
Nonetheless, given the fact that Forrest is one of the leading voices in CCM and Morgan is one of the biggest artists in country music, a collaboration would be a seismic moment. Forrest has already ventured into the country world by joining forces with his good buddy, Thomas Rhett, for the infectious ‘NOTHING ELSE’.
What's more, Morgan has been increasingly using his faith as a muse on recent projects, highlighted on stellar offerings such as ‘The Dealer’, ‘Revelation’ and ‘Don't Think Jesus’.
So perhaps a link-up wouldn't be as crazy as you might think. We're not sure there's anything in the works at the moment, but with Forrest continuing his hot streak of releases with another new earworm today (October 24th), ‘KEEP IT SIMPLE’, we're hoping he might recruit Morgan to cut a hook or verse on one of his next singles...
