There's no place like home, and today (Oct. 29), Flatland Cavalry are transporting listeners to theirs with their latest single, 'Lubbock'.
While the Texas-bred band's hometown tune is nothing new to longtime fans – they began teasing the song years ago – it is now officially ours.
"5 years ago, we released an acoustic video on YouTube in celebration of the Texas Tech basketball team making it to the NCAA Championship Game," the band recently shared on social media, gearing up for the song's official arrival. "Since that day, y’all have blown up our comments begging for the song to be released. Earlier this year we went back to our stomping grounds [Amusement Park Recording Studio] and recorded this song to tape."
"Take me home where the air is dry," frontman Cleto Cordero croons against a subdued arrangement of swelling keys and distant rhythms. "And the cotton and the winter wheat grow knee-high / I tell ya friend I ain’t seen a prettier sunset sky / A little windy, but I don’t mind / Little breeze through my hair suits me just fine / And ya gotta see them stars burn at night / Feeling low from the road / Time to head back home / Nothing like a bit of Lubbock to get me high."
The homegrown anthem will likely appear on the band's forthcoming album, Flatland Forever, alongside their recently released 'Three Car Garage'.
The impending collection, which arrives on Nov. 8, is a celebration of the group's last decade together. The project will consist of select fan-favorites from past albums, making tracks from Come May, Humble Folks, Homeland Insecurity, Welcome To Countryland, Songs To Keep You Warm, and their latest release, Wandering Star, all fair game.
The compilation will also feature four new song, alternate versions of previously released tracks, as well as commentary from the group as they reflect on their already storied career and look forward to the decades still to come.
