Brandon Lake's fifth album, King Of Hearts, may have only dropped just over a month ago, but it seems the genre-blending maverick's attention has already turned to new music.

Lake has started teasing an unreleased, country-inspired offering titled ‘When a Cowboy Prays’, and fans in the comments are clamouring for two things. Firstly - and most importantly - a release date, and secondly, a feature from Cody Johnson.

There's no question that CoJo's vocals would sound incredible on this track. ‘When a Cowboy Prays’ finds Lake reflecting on the power of faith across a sparse, intimate guitar, and his delivery even feels like it draws on Johnson's style here at times.

Johnson has been known to dabble in Contemporary Christian Music crossovers, with the Texas native teaming up with Cece Winans for ‘Come Jesus Come’ in April.

Similarly, Brandon Lake has been making a concerted effort to venture further into the country music world in recent months. The ‘Gratitude’ hitmaker teamed up with Jelly Roll for the viral ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’ back in February, before recruiting Gabby Barrett for a revamped version of ‘As For Me & My Home’ in June.

Brandon Lake also made a momentous appearance at CMA Fest 2025, during which he was joined by Jelly Roll for ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’, with a striking neon cross appearing in the night sky as part of their performance. In addition, throughout the rollout for King Of Hearts, Lake has been donning a cowboy hat, perhaps hinting that his next project will lean more towards the country music scene.

Shortly after sharing that initial social media snippet of ‘When a Cowboy Prays’, Brandon Lake delivered the live debut of the evocative track during one of this week's tour-stop.

The ‘Sevens’ singer-songwriter has uploaded a heartwarming clip of a cowboy in the audience tearing up after hearing Lake serenading the arena crowd with the stunning ballad.

We're keeping our fingers crossed that Brandon Lake decides to give Cody Johnson a call about a potential collaboration soon, and that CoJo has time to hit the studio and cut a verse for the forthcoming track. Of course, even if Lake decides to keep this as a solo effort, we still think it'll make a huge splash in the country charts, with Lake's rich, powerful vocals combining with beautiful lyricism to produce a stellar ode to the way in which cowboys rely on faith when times are hard.

We'll hopefully be getting a drop date for ‘When a Cowboy Prays’ in the coming weeks, as Lake looks to keep the momentum going strong after his lauded King Of Hearts project.

For the full lyrics from Brandon Lake's new snippet for ‘When a Cowboy Prays’, see below:

“Hangs his hat up on a tree
Bows his head, bends his knee
Only asks for what he needs and Jesus listens
A little bread for the day, a little water, little shade
To forgive just as he has been forgiven

-

When a cowboy prays
It starts raining in Oklahoma
Long lost sons come home to mama
And those stubborn horses break

-

When a cowboy prays
It's a whisper and a rumble
It's as strong as it is humble
This old world just ain't the same
When a cowboy prays”
