Niko Moon is premiering the new music video for his electrifying take on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's iconic ‘80s anthem, ‘FISHIN’ IN THE DARK’, exclusively on Holler.
The romantic, atmospheric visuals follow a young couple who decide to head out to the river after nightfall and bask in the glow of the moonlight, with their love story interspersed with shots of Niko Moon performing the track with his trusty acoustic guitar.
The music video was directed by Alex Ayala, with the assistance of Rodrigo Pimentel as Camera Operator. Opening on the couple pulling up to the river in their 4x4, the low lighting glints against their smiling faces, setting the mood for the jubilant song.
Niko's ‘FISHIN’ IN THE DARK’ was filmed on Nashville's Cumberland River, with the visuals starring Haley Bird and Kevin Avery as the two protagonists in the heartwarming narrative.
Speaking to Holler ahead of the video's release, Niko Moon underlined how his objective with this song and the accompanying visuals was to pay tribute to one of his favourite songs. He explained, “I grew up on Nitty Gritty and I wanted to honor one of country music’s absolute classic songs! The melody of ‘Fishin’ in the Dark’ is so timeless and I hope the band and the people dig my take on it!”
Across his socials, Niko has touched on how he was initially nervous to released his version of ‘FISHIN’ IN THE DARK’, given how he introduces trap-leaning sonics. However, as he points out, fans have been drawn to the infectious track.
The rattling hi-hats and seismic beat drop propel the listener into the arena-sized hook, with Niko Moon's distinctive rasp combining with the innovative production to create a stellar, energising rendition of the traditional country staple.
Niko Moon's turbocharged, 808-fuelled cover of ‘FISHIN’ IN THE DARK’, which was originally released in 1987, features on the ‘GOOD TIME’ hitmaker's latest album, BETTER DAYS.
It serves as one of the many stand-outs on the galvanising, joy-infused project, with Niko Moon donating all the proceeds from 2024 album's title-track, ‘BETTER DAYS‘, towards his newly founded mental health organisation, The Happy Cowboy Foundation.
