While backstage with Holler at Railbird Festival 2024, Flatland Cavalry touched on the creative process behind their new song, ‘Touchdown’, which is featured on the Twisters soundtrack.

Flatland Cavalry are joined by a plethora of country music heavyweights on the eagerly anticipated project, which drops on July 19th to coincide with the release of the Twisters movie, a high-profile remake of the much-loved 1996 film, Twister.

Luke Combs, Megan Moroney, Lainey Wilson, Tyler Childers, Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown and more have contributed tracks to the blockbuster record, which also includes a brand new song from country icon, Shania Twain. Shania's appearance is made all the more special by the fact that she featured on the original 1996 soundtrack.

One of the songs fans have been looking forward to hearing the most has undoubtedly been Flatland Cavalry's ‘Touchdown’, with the band explaining to Holler how the song arose.

Flatland Cavalry shared, “It was through Warner Chappell, our publisher. They asked us if we wanted to write a song for the Twisters movie and the word ‘Touchdown’ came to mind, and it's all the different stuff that you can associate it with...so we wrote that and went in the studio, and the guys added the magic to it”.

The ACM-nominated band went on to highlight how they tried to reflect the tornado-inspired plot of Twisters with a tempestuous instrumental, “There's a really cool musical section in the middle of the song that sounds like a twister coming to and fro”.

Twisters features a cut from another fast-emerging artist, Sam Barber, with the country prodigy speaking to Holler about his song on the soundtrack during Railbird Festival 2024.

Both the conversations with Flatland Cavalry and Sam Barber took place at Railbird Festival 2024, with some of the biggest artists in country and folk performing at the much-loved Lexington, Kentucky event, such as Noah Kahan, Chris Stapleton and Hozier.
