ERNEST has been asked to step onto some hallowed stages over the years, with the ‘Would If I Could’ crooner performing at London's BST Hyde Park, the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman and countless football stadiums across North America with Morgan Wallen.

However, the prolific songsmith has confessed that he might have just delivered his most nerve-wracking set, with ERNEST performing a cover of Chris LeDoux's ‘Look At You Girl’ as the first-dance song for Jamey Johnson and Brittney Eakins.

ERN has taken to socials to upload footage of the beautiful cover, as well as sharing his endearing texts with Johnson - one of his idols and a revered figure in country music.

ERNEST has heartawrmingly captioned the clip, “I have played some nerve racking moments. But singing the first dance song for @jameyjohnsonofficial takes the (wedding) cake”.

In the text chain, Jamey Johnson makes it clear that ERNEST was his No. 1 choice to perform at his wedding. The fact that Johnson has penned hits for and collaborated with a dizzying array of artists during his storied career, and would have had a range of options, makes his decision to ask his friend ERN all the more touching.

Johnson asks ERNEST, “Will you sing our first dance?” before clarifying that he wants one of Chris LeDoux's most romantic offerings, ‘Look At You Girl‘, to be the soundtrack.

ERNEST modestly responded, “I'm going to my hotel room with the Guitar now to see how comfortable I can get with it. Would it just be me and acoustic? I'll give you a solid answer by the end of day, I do not wanna fuck up your first dance song LMAO”.

Johnson then emphasised why he wanted ERN to do the honours, “It's a tradition with me. I've sang that song at so many weddings. You're the only one I know that would appreciate the tradition and do it the justice it deserves”, adding jokingly, “I'd sing it to her myself but I gotta do all the manual labor on this job myself”.

It's safe to say ERNEST followed through and captured the warm, adoring spirit that permeates ‘Look At You Girl’ with his performance. The ‘Hangin’ On’ singer-songwriter then posted a second, longer clip of his evocative performance, gushing, “Here’s the whole thing.. “look at you girl” by Chris LeDoux LIVE at @jameyjohnsonofficial wedding…. For his first dance…. Per request…. an honor”.

It's a stunning cover, and once again highlights ERNEST's unique position in Music City as both a catalyst for genre-blurring, outward-facing styles of country music and a flag-bearer for a more traditional-leaning sound, the latter of which is epitomised by the Nashville native's newly founded “old school” label, DeVille Records.
