ERNEST and Snoop Dogg's long-teased collaboration, ‘Gettin‘ Gone’, seems to be inching closer, with the genre-blending duo spotted filming a music video on Nashville's Broadway Strip.
It feels like a similar move to when Post Malone and Luke Combs stirred up a buzz when filming the visuals to their blockbuster collaboration, ‘Guy For That’, on Broadway last July.
Judging by the jacket Snoop is donning, which is emblazoned with ‘Snoop DeVille’, it seems the arrival of ‘Gettin’ Gone’ - penned by ERNEST, Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip and Mark Holman - will double-up as the launch of ERNEST's new DeVille label.
In a new post, ERNEST poses alongside Snoop on-set, with the ‘Flower Shops’ singer-songwriter directing fans towards a new social media page for ‘DeVille Records’. There's a pre-save link in the bio, which hopefully means ‘Gettin‘ Gone’ is en route.
Endearingly, ERNEST also shared a heartwarming video of his three-year-old son, Ryman, meeting Snoop Dogg, with the tongue-in-cheek caption, “Ryman is certified 💙”.
ERNEST has been teasing this star-studded Snoop Dogg link-up for weeks, with ’Gettin’ Gone’ expected to serve as the lead single for ERN's collaborative Cadillac Sessions project. The record is due to feature some of the Nashville trailblazer's Cadillac Music Publishing signees, such as country prodigy, Chandler Walters.
During an appearance on the Bussin‘ with the Boys Podcast alongside Jelly Roll earlier in the month, ERNEST explained how Snoop Dogg ended up with a verse on ‘Gettin’ Gone’.
Before regaling listeners with that story, ERN confirmed the project would be dropping soon, “The Cadillac Sessions is done, we got the masters back, that'll come out some time this Spring. But for my album, I just now started wrapping my head around writing it”.
ERNEST went on to recall meeting Snoop Dogg back in November when Snoop joined forces with Jelly Roll to debut their Tom Petty-interpolating duet, ‘Last Dance With Mary Jane’.
ERN outlined, “I only met [Snoop] because of Jelly Roll. I mean, that's all Jelly. He created that relationship because he's Jelly Roll, and then Snoop came to Nashville to pop up with Jelly Roll, and I tell people all the time I didn't follow my nose backstage because that would've done me no good. It always smells like Snoop Dogg's backstage, but I went to where the most security was, and I was like - I haven't told [Jelly Roll] this - but I went to where there was a bunch of security and I went to one guy, I was like, “Is Snoop back there?” And he goes, “No”. Then a guy that knew me comes back from behind and was like, “He's back there””.
ERNEST expanded, “I was like, “Alright”, so I weasled my way back to the door, there's one more guy and I was like, “My name's ERNEST, I just played out here, I'm opening for Jelly. Can I meet Snoop?” He opened the door, he's like, “Snoop, you good?” He was like, “Yeah, come on”. I go in, it's Snoop, his camera-guy and like two other people. It's like oh my God, this is literally the moment I've been waiting for”.
Naturally, ERNEST asked if he could share a blunt with Snoop, “Hey man, uh, you care if I maybe...can I smoke with you? Can we smoke? And dude, he's like, “Yeah, for sure”. On top of the little mini fridge, he pushed me some weed and a backwood, and I'm like, “Hell yeah, I know how to roll”. Can't find the seam. Dry wood. So I'm just sitting there, I was like, “Bro, this shit's not cracking, I'm sorry, I know how to roll a blunt”. He's like, “It's all good” and he hands me his, we smoke, and I'm like, “Can I show you a song I just wrote”. I wasn't even pitching him a song”.
Jelly Roll quipped, “Snoop had a blunt lit, and think about how Snoop this is, and ERN said can we smoke together, and he just gives him a bag and was like, “Yeah, get outta here””.
ERNEST joked, “I immediately put Snoop in, “Whoop Whoop, you're going to demo jail!” The video you see on Instagram is him listening to it, catching a vibe, we're smoking, he was like, “Run that shit back”. He wanted to hear it a second time. He was like, “I need your number, ERN, send me that shit”. And so he just lived with it for a couple of weeks. I sent him a video from The Cadillac Sessions...and it was a video of my Coupe de Ville pulling up in the drive, and it had that song behind it”.
He concluded, “I was just showing him the car, and he was like, “I need that record”, and I was like, “I need that record, I'm launching this label...but do you want a verse?” And he goes “blue heart, blue heart, fire emoji, paw print, paw print, paw print”. I took that as a yes, and I sent him the session like three days later and he sent me the verses. And now he's going to come to Nashville and shoot a music video”.
It therefore seems this is the music video ERNEST was referring to during that conversation. With The Cadillac Sessions dropping in the Spring, it looks like ‘Gettin’ Gone’ will most probably be released in the coming weeks ahead of the full-length project.
ERNEST has been sharing snippets of the track, which finds ERN crooning playfully across a traditional-leaning instrumental. The light-hearted, uptempo flow feels like it is tailor-made for a Snoop Dogg verse, so we're excited to hear the full version soon.
