Ready the curtains because a Dolly Parton musical is about to take center stage.
Dubbed Hello, I’m Dolly, the name taken from the title of her 1967 debut album, the musical will arrive on Broadway in 2026.
“Hello, I’m Dolly, and I lived my whole life to see this show on stage," the country legend shared in a statement, detailing the production that will be inspired by the her life and career. "I’ve written many original songs for the show and included all your favorites in it as well. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp, it truly is a Grand Ol’ Opera. Pun and fun intended. Don’t miss it!”
Parton will be wearing many hats for this production, writing the music, co-writing the story alongside Maria S. Schlatter, as well as acting as a producer with Adam Speers and Danny Nozell.
Speers spoke about the project, sharing, “I first had the pleasure of working with Dolly Parton in 2019, when she trusted us to develop a new version of her musical 9 to 5 for London’s West End. I had always heard she wanted to do a musical based on her life, so when she asked if I would be interested in producing it, I was bowled over. As the world knows, Dolly is a magical blend of talent, hard work, intelligence, charm, wit, and a gigantically big heart. I’m thrilled we’re going to bring her inspiring story to Broadway.”
Casting is in progress with further details to come.
Already, this year has been one of reflection for Parton, the news of this project arriving not long after the star announced her forthcoming album, Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith & Fables. Set to arrive in November, the 40-track record will explore the artist's heritage through music with the help of many of her immediate and extended relatives. A four-part documentary series will also accompany the release.
