Given Kevin Costner will not be returning for Season 5 Part 2 of Taylor Sheridan's hit neo-Western series, Yellowstone, the spotlight will fall firmly on Beth and Rip, two fan-favourite characters whose unlikely love story is at the heart of the show's success.
Rip, played by Cole Hauser, has been championed because of his willingness to be loyal and tough - at times a little too tough - when called upon by the Dutton family, as well as showcasing his tender side during intimate moments with Kelly Reilly's Beth Dutton.
Given the fact that there have already been two successful Yellowstone spin-offs - 1883 and 1923 - there has been considerable speculation as to additional prequels or sequels set in the Yellowstone universe. At present, Season 5 Part 2 is being billed as the final season of the main show, although there have been a number of recent reports that Paramount is considering renewing it for a sixth season.
Alongside these rumours, there has been a wealth of tantalising speculation surrounding a potential spin-off focussing on the intertwined lives of Rip and Beth, something Cole Hauser would be incredibly keen for, judging by a new interview with CBS.
In the conversation, when asked about his thoughts on a spin-off that reunites him with Kelly Reilly, Coler Hauser made his stance clear, “I'm all for it...What would it look like? It would be a pretty amazing show. I think it's a lot of fireworks. I mean, look, with Taylor's writing, anything is possible, and, you know, if that's the direction he decides to go, I mean, I'm all for it - and I know Kelly would be too”.
It's interesting that Cole Hauser has responded so eagerly to this suggestion, as is his implication that Kelly Reilly has expressed an interest in joining him for a spin-off. Yellowstone cast-members usually remain tight-lipped about projects in the pipeline.
It's been alleged in recent weeks that Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly have been in talks with Taylor and the Yellowstone team about this proposed spin-off, so perhaps Hauser's vehemence in this interview is a clue that the series is already in the works.
Either way, we're keeping our fingers crossed that this comes to fruition, as well as other forthcoming Yellowstone spin-offs, such as The Madison, which was originally titled 2024. Any time Rip and Beth are on-screen together, there's an electric mix of undeniable chemistry and - as Hauser aptly put it - “fireworks”. As a result, we'd undoubtedly welcome a full-length series starring the duo with open arms.
