It looks like Cody Johnson season is fast approaching, with the ‘Til You Can't’ hitmaker taking to Instagram today (Monday, September 29th) to share a couple of shots from the studio and to confirm he's “Been working on something for y'all...”
It's not yet clear whether he's talking about a new single, album or maybe something else entirely. But the atmospheric photo of CoJo sat in the control room of a studio, while session players are in the recording booth, implies he's teasing new music.
This would mark the first original solo material we've received from the Texas native since 2024's Leather Deluxe Edition, which tagged on an extra 13 songs to his 2023 opus.
Alongside the black-and-white image of Johnson in the studio, he's included a chord sheet, leaving musical virtuosos to try and decipher which track he could be working on.
Some fans have taken to the comments to suggest it looks a lot like the chord progression for The Chicks’ ‘Travelin’ Soldier’ - a song CoJo has covered on YouTube in 2022, and which listeners have been begging him to officially record ever since.
If it is a studio version of ‘Travelin’ Soldier’, then we certainly wouldn't be complaining. However, even if this cryptic teaser refers to a cover rather than new original music, we're still hoping this will signify the first taste of Johnson's post-Leather era - and that we won't have to wait too long before we get to hear the full project.
