Texas titan Cody Johnson has shared that his lauded 2023 Leather LP is getting the deluxe treatment this fall.
While performing during the Warner Luncheon at the 2024 edition of Country Radio Seminar (CRS) in Nashville, the award-winning entertainer broke the news that he had just put the finishing touches on the expanded version of his most recent record.
Released in November 2023, the album arrived to instant acclaim, with early singles like 'The Painter' and 'That's Texas' quickly becoming fan-favourites, before the introspective, story-focussed ‘Dirt Cheap’ was uncovered as a hidden gem on the record.
Ahead of dropping Leather, Cody Johnson had teased that it would ultimately be a double-album, and excitingly, it looks like we won't have to wait too much longer before hearing the full project. During the Warner Luncheon, Cody revealed that the deluxe version of Leather is being lined up for a Fall 2024 release date.
Interestingly, the ‘Long Live Country Music’ hitmaker also announced that this week, he'll be returning to the studio to record a duet with Canadian country icon, Terri Clark.
It's unclear whether this link-up will feature on the deluxe version of Leather, but seeing as Cody Johnson confirmed the project has already been finished, it seems his Terri Clark duet might be part of a separate record. CoJo has teased other blockbuster collaborations in the past, including one with Carrie Underwood, so perhaps the prolific Texas singer-songwriter has an album of duets up his sleeve.
In a 2023 interview, Cody Johnson mentioned a concept project called The Cowboy Sessions, which will consist of classic country covers, so it feels likely that one or two of these duets might be intended for this record, instead of Leather (Deluxe).
In addition to dropping the welcome news regarding Leather (Deluxe), Cody Johnson treated attendees at the Warner Luncheon to rousing renditions of ‘The Painter’, ‘Dirt Cheap’ and the Grammy-winning ‘Til You Can't’. Audience-members were also able to witness electrifying performances from fellow Warner heavyweights, Ashley McBryde and Bailey Zimmerman, as part of the popular CRS 2024 event.
