Chase Rice took to his socials this week to pay tribute to his fellow country chart-topper, Zach Bryan, with a stirring cover of Zach's celebrated 2023 track, ‘Oklahoman Son’.
The sparse, stripped-back ballad featured on Zach Bryan's acclaimed 2023 self-titled album, which also produced the ‘Something in the Orange’ songsmith's first ever Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single, ‘I Remember Everything’ with Kacey Musgraves.
Chase Rice's rendition captures the ruggedness and rawness of Zach's original, with Chase adopting a gravelly vocal delivery that serves as a noticeable departure from his usual style.
The ‘Bench Seat’ songsmith accompanied the clip with an explanation as to why he chose to cover ‘Oklahoman Son’, “It's camo season, footballs on the tv, got the fire goin, leaves are fallin' and it's cool air in Nashville. My voice is shot from a year of touring. I'm completely exhausted. And no chance I'm playing it correct, but this song just feels right”.
Chase Rice went on to give a shout-out to Zach Bryan, ““Nightcrawler blood on your casting thumb”, who the hell thinks of lines like that?? Great shit Zach Bryan”.
The Asheville native released his sixth studio album in February, I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go To Hell, with many fans and critics championing the project as Chase's best project to date.
