As the anticipation continues to build ahead of BRELAND's keenly awaited UK Truth Telling Tour, the ‘My Truck’ hitmaker sits down with Holler to tease what fans can expect from his upcoming series of shows, as well as touching on his plans for new music.
The New Jersey maverick has been at the forefront of country music's outward-facing, genre-blending wave, with BRELAND bursting onto the scene back in 2020 with his viral earworm, ‘My Truck’, before solidifying his next-big-thing status and laying out his mission statement with his lauded 2022 debut album, Cross Country.
Over the past few years, BRELAND has made a conscious effort to build a strong relationship with his fans across The Pond, with the ‘Praise the Lord’ crooner making regular trips for UK staples such as C2C Festival and The Long Road Festival.
Now, after almost two years away from his loyal UK fans, BRELAND is preparing to bring his array of infectious anthems to Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol and London. Then, the New Jersey native heads across to Kent for American Speedfest 2025 , before headlining venues across the Netherlands and Germany.
Kicking off on Thursday, May 28th at Glasgow's SWG3 Warehouse and concluding his UK leg with a momentous show at London's Islington Assembly Hall, the Truth Telling Tour is expected to be a highlights reel of BRELAND's most celebrated hits to date, as well as offering fans a tantalising sneak preview of what's to come.
“I’m really excited about coming back across The Pond!” BRELAND gushes to , “My favorite shows I’ve played have been out in the UK, and my fans and supporters out there always make me feel so confident on stage. It’s been about a year and half since I’ve played out there, and I’ve been looking forward to this trip since the last one”.
He reflects on how he's been working hard to revamp and adjust his setlist, in light of his acclaimed Project 2024, which spawned fan-favourites such as ‘Same Work’ and ‘Icing’.
“Project 2024 has a couple songs that I’m definitely looking forward to adding to the setlist”, BRELAND muses, “We’ve been playing ‘Icing Out’ on the road these last few months, but we definitely have a couple other songs we’re ready to debut for this tour”.
Epitomising both BRELAND's keenness to establish close ties with the UK and his ability to seamlessly flit between genres is his recent link-up with British phenom, Ella Henderson. The duo combined for the bittersweet, quietly hopeful ‘One Door Closes’, which is due to appear on Henderson's forthcoming studio album.
Ticket-holders to BRELAND's Truth Telling tour will be hoping Henderson joins him for the live debut of their addictive duet while they're both on this side of The Atlantic.
BRELAND toasts Henderson, “Collaborating with Ella Henderson on ‘One Door Closes’ was a lot of fun; she’s such a talent and I think our voices sound great together”.
He expands, “I’ve had a couple collabs with UK artists between this, ‘Cate’s Brother’ with Maisie Peters, and performing at BRELAND & Friends in Nashville with Sam Ryder”.
As for the prospect of a special guest appearing on this run, BRELAND remains tight-lipped, but assures fans he has some unexpected treats up his sleeves, “I can’t make any promises about Ella joining me onstage, but I have been known to have a few surprises during my shows. You’ll have to come out to see what I’m planning”.
Those who have been lucky enough to get their hands on tickets will also be wondering whether they'll be privy to one of BRELAND's signature freestyles. The ‘Hot Sauce’ singer-songwriter gained prominence across TikTok during the NFL season, courtesy of his inventive, playful freestyles predicting the weekend's scores.
“I have always been a huge sports fan, and it’s fun content to play around with at the intersection of music and sports”, BRELAND explains, “Those videos always do really well, and when I go out to play shows, I’ve found that a lot of people have discovered me through that content. I’m not sure whether actually releasing those little freestyles would make sense, but I definitely love the reaction and it’s something special that I’ve been able to make some noise with. The goal would be for the people who come for the sports to stay for the actual music”.
Although BRELAND has a packed touring schedule on the books, he emphasises that he's making time to continue honing his sophomore record, “I’ve spent the last couple months working on some new music toward my second album, and I think I’ve got a really clear sonic and conceptual direction for it. Still, some of the same type of bops and ballads my audience has come to expect, but with a new sound and more mature perspective in the production and lyrics. We’ve got a couple unreleased songs queued up for this tour, for sure”.
We're hoping one of these will be the deeply evocative ‘Poor Jesus’, which finds BRELAND contemplating what Jesus would think of some of the acts that have been carried out in his name, “‘Poor Jesus’ is such a powerful and timely song given some of what I’ve seen going on in the states around religion and politics. I’ve never been afraid to address potentially controversial topics in my art, but getting those kinds of songs out isn’t always as easy. I’m not sure whether that one will be coming out any time soon, but I did perform it with Madeline Edwards at BRELAND & Friends this year and I believe it was a powerful moment”.
As he outlines, BRELAND has never shied away from tackling thornier topics within the country music landscape, with ‘Cross Country’, for instance, serving as a moving confession that he has not always felt as though he belongs in the genre he adores.
When BRELAND storms onto stages across the UK over the next few weeks, though, it will be heartwarmingly and unquestionably apparent just how loved he is within country music.
