After Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) artist Cory Asbury proposed a possible ‘alternative’, spiritually-minded Super Bowl Half-Time Show, Anne Wilson has confirmed in a forthcoming interview with Holler that she'd be keen to get involved.
Wilson blurs the lines between CCM and country, with the Kentucky trailblazer establishing herself as one of the most exciting voices to emerge from this genre-intersection.
While chatting to Holler about her eagerly anticipated new album, Stars, the ‘Rain in the Rearview’ singer-songwriter has expressed her support for this rival Super Bowl show.
Wilson emphasises that she feels Asbury's proposed ‘family-friendly’ alternative to Bad Bunny's official Super Bowl Half-Time show would be a positive move, “Oh my gosh, I would love to do that. That would be such an incredible thing”.
Wilson expands by stressing that there is an appetite for a more ‘wholesome’ performance, “I've seen that, and I think that it's definitely time for something wholesome to be at the Super Bowl. So we'd definitely love to be a part of something like that”.
Asbury has received support from a host of big-name CCM acts, including his recent collaborator, Forrest Frank, who has cemented himself as one of the leading figures in the genre. Others such as Conner Smith, Josiah Queen and CAIN have echoed Forrest's sentiments and suggested they would love to take part in this, too.
Bad Bunny's unveiling as the 2026 Super Bowl Half-Time performer has caused a stir with the conservative-leaning media, with the United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem going so far as declaring that ICE will be “all over” the performance. The Puerto Rican chart-topper omitted the US from his latest tour, due to concerns that ICE would end up raiding the concert venues.
This alternative show that Asbury is pushing has been borne from the belief that Super Bowl Half-Time performers of late have been promoting ideals and imagery that aren't in sync with a Christian way of life, with the ‘MISUNDERSTOOD’ crooner suggesting recent performers have been delivering “raunchy as heck” shows, which he felt were inappropriate for children watching.
