Editor: Trigger Warning - Sexual Assault
Each year, Faster Horses Festival draws an average of 40,000 attendees for three days of camping and constant country music. However, in recent years, it's been revealed that several deaths and criminal reports have been filed across the festival's ten years of operations.
Faster Horses 2023 saw a star-studded slew of country music's finest take the stage across its three days in Brooklyn, Michigan. The tenth year saw headlining slots from Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band and Shania Twain, as well as main stage sets from Dustin Lynch, Billy Currington, Hailey Whitters, Dwight Yoakam, Warren Zeiders, Conner Smith and more.
In a new report published by Rolling Stone ahead of the 2023 event, which also cites a 2021 investigation conducted by MLive, it was unveiled that there were 91 assault reports and 30 criminal sexual conduct reports and six deaths during the first eight years of the Faster Horses Festival.
After the 2022 festival, MLive reported that there was a rape, six additional reported sexual assaults, 30 fights or acts of physical violence and one death. Since Faster Horses' inception in 2013, there have been seven deaths reported during the festival, including four in 2021.
Brooklyn’s self-proclaimed “party of the summer” is organized by California-based concert promoter Live Nation, who has come under much scrutiny over the last few years for not doing more to protect festival and concert attendees.
Holler is awaiting confirmation of the total number of criminal reports to have been made relating to Faster Horses 2023.
