It's been a busy week here at Holler. We've been out and about in town with Brian Kelley, getting to hear a sneak preview of some of the songs from his forthcoming solo album and learning that there is a diner in London where you can buy a hamburger with peanut butter. Shocking!
There are some combinations that work a little better in our Best New Country playlist this week. Thomas Rhett and Morgan Wallen get together to celebrate the good old days and grandma's home comforts on 'Mamaw's House', a song Rhett has been teasing for the last few years. I bet neither of their grandmas cooked burgers and peanut butter.
Flatland Cavalry get together with Kaitlin Butts for the beautiful 'Mornings With You,' another song from the band's highly anticipated new album, Wandering Star, which comes out at the end of next month.
This week's cover star is Holler favourite, Bonnie Montgomery, who releases the title track to her forthcoming album, released on November 3rd. We first heard 'The River' when Bonnie played it at Black Deer Festival this summer and we loved it so much we got in touch with those lovely folks at Gar Hole Records to get a copy of it as soon as she'd finished her set. We've been listening to ever since and we're so happy that now the whole world gets to hear it too.
Jaime Wyatt has released her cover of The Grateful Dead’s iconic song ‘Althea’ today as a way to connect with her late father and reflect on the innumerable times she attended Grateful Dead’s shows as a child.
Featuring guitar licks by Adrian Quesada of The Black Pumas, its just one of many cathartic songs off Wyatt’s forthcoming Quesada-produced album, Feel Good, which comes out on the same day as Bonnie Montgomery’s album via New West Records. Big week that.
After a week of uproar over the exorbitant ticket prices for some of next year's big country tours, Walker Hayes wades in with his giant size twelves with memories of buying a pair of Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets that cost him more than his mortgage as a "way too expensive" gift for his daughter's ninth birthday.
"Dave Ramsey wouldn't like it," Hayes sings, alluding to the American radio personality who gives out financial advice. "But it was priceless watching her watch her hero, singing every single word to every song in the nosebleeds, smiling like we have VIP passes on."
Let's hope his daughter isn't a Chris Stapleton fan or he'll be in for another nasty shock for her tenth birthday.
Our country music doesn't come exclusively from the other side of the pond this week. We've got the new single from Norwich-based country rockers Brown Horse, with another taste from their forthcoming album, Reservoir, due out on Loose Records in January.
With Holler's Best New Country playlist, you can listen to them all and more. The playlist contains all of the best new country, Americana and roots tunes we're spinnin' right here at Holler HQ.
