YELLOWSTONE SEASON 5 PART 2

Premiere Date: November 10 2024

Premiere Time: 8pm ET

Channel: Paramount

Cast: Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Lainey Wilson and more

Over the past year or so, it's felt as though life has been imitating art, with the Yellowstone producers and writers being embroiled in a number of high-profile feuds. Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the hit neo-Western series, locked horns with his leading man, Kevin Costner, while the writers battled with the powers that be during the SAG-AFTRA saga, with the fate of Yellowstone under siege - much in the same way as the future of the titular ranch hangs in the balance at the end of Season 5 Part 1.

Now, things have thankfully settled down off-camera, but rest assured the opposite can be said of the on-screen action. Season 5 Part 1 concluded on a nail-biting cliff-hanger, with the Duttons’ warring factions all preparing for what looks to be the decisive battle.

Excitingly, we don't have too long to wait until we find out how the Yellowstone story will end, with the final six episodes of Season 5 airing on Sunday, November 10th at 8pm ET via the Paramount Network in the US and on Paramount+ in Canada.

Each new instalment will air weekly, with the season finale released on December 15th. The new Yellowstone season will air in the UK on November 11th, and will be shown in Latin America, Brazil and France at a later unspecified date.

Here, we'll have all the up-to-date news and latest soundtrack from each episode of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2.

The major news, of course, is that Kevin Costner is not returning for Season 5 Part 2, following a long-running dispute with the show's producers. The Yellowstone organisers claimed Kevin Costner had chosen his new film, Horizon - which he has allegedly poured around $38 million of his own money into - while Costner maintains that he always put Yellowstone first, and that the show's runners kept shifting the goal-posts. In an interview with Deadline, he underlined, “They wanted to redo that one, and instead of seasons six and seven, it was 5A and 5B, and maybe we’ll do six. They weren’t able to make those. Horizon was set in the middle, but Yellowstone was first position. I fit Horizon into the gaps. They just kept moving their gaps”. Then, in June, he officially confirmed via social media that he would not be featuring in the new episodes of Yellowstone.

Either way, Kevin Costner has not shot anything new for Season 5 Part 2, and it remains to be seen whether this means the premiere will open with an off-camera death for John Dutton, or whether his character simply decides to say ‘Legacy schmegacy’ and leave Beth in charge while he goes on a fun, season-long trip elsewhere.

Having said this, Kevin Costner does appear in the official Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 trailer, although these are seemingly all clips from previous seasons. There's a chance he'd already filmed some scenes before leaving the show, which could be included in the new season, but it feels unlikely, given the contentiousness of his departure.

Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser and Wes Bentley are all confirmed to be returning for the new season, with Grimes speaking to Holler during a recent interview about the various “challenges” the cast faced as a result of Kevin Costner's absence.

We won't go into plot speculation or potential spoilers, in case you're still bingeing the previous seasons, but one thing is for certain - it's about to get chaotic. But then again, it wouldn't be Yellowstone if it was all sunshine and rainbows, would it?

As for the Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 soundtrack, Taylor Sheridan and the show's Music Supervisor, Andrea Von Forester, have become renowned for their stellar choice of songs to weave into the fabric of the series. Yellowstone was one of the first places people heard Whiskey Myers, Zach Bryan and various other alt-country and Americana artists that have since blossomed into wildly popular acts.

We've had in-person performances from the likes of Zach and Shane Smith and the Saints, while Lainey Wilson was even recruited to become a major character in Season 5 Part 1. The Bell Bottom Country hitmaker has generally been tight-lipped about any involvement in Part 2, but it was recently revealed she would indeed feature.

The latest season of Yellowstone will be tinged by a sense of melancholy, due to this potentially being the last time we'll get to see so many beloved characters on our TV screens.

Or will it? A number of new reports suggest that the organisers are considering returning to the original series rollout plan, which would see Yellowstone renewed for one more season. Puck, Variety and other outlets have suggested that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are already in talks to come back for Season 6 as Beth and Rip once again.

Even if this doesn't materialise, another spin-off, The Madison - which was initially called 2024 - has been confirmed, as has a second season of the impressive 1923 prequel, so this won't be the last time we immerse ourselves in the Yellowstone universe.
