Y: MARSHALS SEASON ONE

Expected Premiere Date: 2026

Channel: Paramount

Confirmed Cast: Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton), Brecken Merrill (Tate Dutton), Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater) and more

“I'm changing paths, trying to find a new beginning”, Kayce Dutton declares in the recently unveiled teaser trailer for Y: Marshals, the latest spin-off from Taylor Sheridan's neo-Western juggernaut, Yellowstone. Luke Grimes reprises his role as Kayce, with the eagerly anticipated Paramount Network series yet to have a release date.

The arrival of this clip, though, and the revelation that Y: Marshals is being prepared to drop during CBS’ midseason schedule (which usually entails a January release), means we suspect the full series could well arrive in early 2026, with Paramount confirming a host of key cast-members ahead of the exciting new series.

Luke Grimes will take the helm, with Kayce Dutton leaving behind his ranch - according to the official logline - to join “an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence”.

Tate, Kayce's son, played by Brecken Merrill, has been confirmed as returning, as have Yellowstone favourites, Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater) and Mo Brings Plenty (himself).

Somewhat worryingly, Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica Long-Dutton, Kayce's wife and Tate's mother, has not been announced for the new series. There have been reports that she may still sign on, while some outlets - such as Deadline - declare that her absence will be “explained” in the new series, suggesting she won't feature.

Additionally, new faces such as Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means and Brett Cullen will appear in Y:Marshals. What's more, Logan Marshall-Green will join Luke Grimes as one of Kayce Dutton's friends from his time in the military, Pete Calvin.

Arielle Kebbell will play Belle while Ash Santos will play Andrea, two US Marshals. Tatanka Means will play Miles, another member of Kayce's team of Marshals, with Brett Cullen stepping into the shoes of Harry, the head of Montana's US Marshals.

Both Means and Cullen appeared in Netflix's successful 2025 neo-Western romance, Ransom Canyon, will these roles perhaps piquing the interest of Taylor Sheridan.

Aside from Y: Marshals, Yellowstone fans can look forward to a host of other spin-offs, including The Dutton Ranch, which is due to be helmed by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, who will thankfully return as two beloved characters, Beth and Rip.

There is also the long-teased 6666 spin-off, which will revolve around the 6666 Ranch in Texas, which made a number of appearances in the main series of Yellowstone.

Alongside this will be The Madison, which will tell the tale of a wealthy family that relocates to Montana, and is rumoured to be set in the present-day, soon after the final events of Yellowstone. There are rumblings about a 1944 spin-off, too, which would follow in a similar vein to previous series, 1883 and 1923, and would potentially feature Brandon Skenlar returning as Spencer Dutton from the latter.

Either way, although the Yellowstone mothership may have landed in December 2024 when the main series coming to its dramatic conclusion, it's safe to say the Dutton universe still has plenty of action left, starting with Y: Marshals. With Luke Grimes now an esteemed country artist, hopefully we can look forward to hearing more songs from the ‘No Horse to Ride’ crooner on the Y: Marshals soundtrack.
