Earlier this year, budding country star Tucker Wetmore instantaneously achieved social media success with his debut single titled 'Wine Into Whiskey,' teasing the track on TikTok for months and months before its debut.
Naturally, the debut song was a smash hit upon its release – surpassing stars like Justin Timberlake, Selena Gomez, BTS and more on the charts. As of March 29, Wetmore is back and better than ever with a brand new tune titled 'Wind Up Missin’ You.'
Just like he did with 'Wine Into Whiskey,' Wetmore had been extensively teasing 'Wind Up Missin’ You' via his various social media platforms prior to its release, causing the song to become a fan favorite before even hitting streaming services.
Now that it is available for country music lovers to listen to at their leisure, 'Wind Up Missin’ You' is amassing more and more streams every day, paving the way for a long, illustrious country music career for the Washington native.
The overall sound and thematic territory of 'Wind Up Missin’ You' is entirely different than 'Wine Into Whiskey,' with Wetmore telling a story of true love instead of heartbreak.
While 'Wine Into Whiskey' has an R&B feel, 'Wind Up Missin’ You' is as country as can be, with the modern nature of the song, as well as his twangy vocals, causing listeners all across the globe to draw quite a few similarities to stars like Morgan Wallen and Bailey Zimmerman.
With the song being catapulted by its sultry guitar riffs – as well as Wetmore’s unmatched vocals – it will be unsurprising if this tune causes the talented singer-songwriter to become the next big thing.
"I know I might look like
Another ball cap on a barstool, underneath the PBR light
Sayin' everything under the moon to get you into my arms tonight
You probably heard it all a thousand times, but it ain't what it looks like
Girl, let me tell you what it looks like"
Kicking off 'Wind Up Missin’ You,' Wetmore admits that, while he might look like every other guy at the bar that evening, he is so much more than meets the eye.
Singing to a love interest, Wetmore reassures her that “it ain't what it looks like,” as he has so much more to say than the typical guy, which is later exemplified in the song's chorus.
"You look like waves on a sunset
And you can crash on me all night
You look like wine in a truck bed
A little what I'm doin' for the rest of my life 'cause
You look like I'm done lookin'
But girl, the hard truth is
If this night don't turn into two
You look like I'm gonna wind up missin' you"
Rather than giving surface-level compliments, Wetmore knows that this woman deserves so much more, using the phrases “you look like waves on a sunset” and “you look like wine in a truck bed” to describe just how special she is.
The second half of a chorus takes a slightly different turn, with the country crooner admitting that “if this night don't turn into two” – meaning that if he does leave the bar with this girl – he will definitely wind up missing her, ultimately introducing the title of the track.
"I gotta tell you, baby, I've been
The kind of boy your daddy never wanted you to go and fall in love with
The kinda boys you’re probably done with, their dumb shit
I bet you heard the stories, and, can't say I'm proud of that but
I've turned the page on the old me, and now I ain't lookin' back 'cause"
In the second verse, Wetmore reveals that he is willing to change for this woman. Admitting that he formerly had his flaws – making him “the kind of boy your daddy never wanted you to go and fall in love with” and “the kinda boys you're probably done with” – he is not proud of his past.
He tells her that he is turning over a new leaf, prior to diving into a repeat of the chorus.
"Missin' you in the mornin'
Probably for the next few years
When I'll look back on it
I'll sing, sing it right here"
In the bridge, Wetmore reiterates that if he does not end up with this woman, he will wind up missing her for years and years.
This sentiment is followed by a final chorus, as well as an extended outro that repeats the line “wind up missin' you".
“Figured it’s about that time I drop another song… ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’ dropping March 29. Pre-save link in bio,” Wetmore shared via Instagram on March 11, announcing the release date of the soon-to-be smash hit after teasing it on TikTok for quite some time.
Prior to the release of 'Wind Up Missin’ You,' Wetmore exclusively teased to Holler what exactly the track would entail, as well as what it was like already having such a positive reaction to the song before it even hit streaming services.
“Nothing’s possible without the fans and listeners, so I want to make the music be something they enjoy, but at the end of the day, I’m an artist making the music that makes me happy and what feels right to me, so being true to myself is my biggest guiding light,” he gushed. “We didn’t really change anything from the teaser demo on this one because we felt it was almost near perfect, so it made it pretty easy.”
He then proceeded to dive into the true meaning behind 'Wind Up Missin’ You,' sharing in his own words that “this song kind of paints the picture of young love to me. At some point in time, we’ve all felt it, so we wanted to find the best way to put something we’ve all been through into words. I’m very happy with what it came to be.”
