Gavin Adcock - ‘Turn Down The Lights’

Release Date: August 8, 2025

Album: Own Worst Enemy

Producers: Jay Rodgers

Songwriters: Gavin Adcock and Jack Rauton

The Background:

Gavin Adcock is releasing one last, long-teased single, dubbed 'Turn Down The Lights', before unleashing his full-length studio album, Own Worst Enemy, onto the world.

The album, which arrives on Aug. 15, is a 24-track collection of all that Adcock has become and all that he has learned on his meteoric rise to country stardom.

"Over the last 4 years I’ve spent my life writing, traveling, and trying to find time to breathe," the artist shared of the release in a post on social media. "It doesn’t always add up on paper like it would seem, but through the happiness, hard times and self destruction I’ve found the best part of my job is letting out music for my fans. I can’t thank y’all enough for sticking with me for this long. I’m the furthest thing from perfect and I don’t ever plan to be."

Here, we're diving into the artist's final single before we get to experience them all.

The Sound:

Born from the groans of an electric guitar, 'Turn Down The Lights' is one of Adcock's more soulful offerings, the song a slinking, prowling opus about lust and longing. With the arrival of the chorus, the song becomes punctuated by sure strings and a brazen rhythm, making the yearning opus all the more crave-able.

The Meaning:

"Let's just be honest
Girl, you know I'm good at tellin' lies
And if I could hold you
Well, I'd get lost in them green eyes
No need to fight, no need to cuss
We've got time and the two of us
Lay on this bed and forget about all of those times we got it wrong"

From the opening line, 'Turn Down The Lights' finds Adcock giving in. He's done playing games and fighting what he feels, so the song begins with him coming out with the truth, letting it be known exactly what he wants.

And, as it so often goes, what he wants is this woman...

It seems like the two have spent their relationship dancing around the things they want to say – and do – to one another; and tonight, the artist is done, prepared to be vulnerable for the one he desires. He suggests that they give in to their need for each other and let the night take them where it may.

In the chorus, he croons, "Just keep on holdin' me, baby / And I'll make it all right / Whisper sweet nothings in my ear / You're turnin' me on / So turn down the lights."

It's quite an obvious song, involving cheap wine, slow dances and lingering looks that end in ... well, you get the point.

"Feathers just flyin'
Clothes layin' all around the room
The house may be a mess
But all I can think about is you"

Let's just be honest
Girl, you know I'm good at tellin' lies
And if I could hold you
Well, I'd get lost in them green eyes
No need to fight, no need to cuss
We've got time and the two of us
Lay on this bed and forget about all of those times we got it wrong

Just keep on holdin' me, baby
And I'll make it all right
Whisper sweet nothings in my ear
You're turnin' me on
So turn down the lights

I've got some cheap wine
And you've got a million dollar smile
And if you would let me
Well, I'd like to stick around a while
Holdin' your hand, take you to town
Dance like a fool and spin you around
And if we get home and it's daylight
Well, don't worry girl, we'll throw them shades

Just keep on holdin' me, baby
And I'll make it all right
Whisper sweet nothings in my ear
You're turnin' me on
So turn down the lights

Feathers just flyin'
Clothes layin' all around the room
The house may be a mess
But all I can think about is you

Just keep on holdin' me, baby
And I'll make it all right
Whisper sweet nothings in my ear
You're turnin' me on
So turn down the lights
Turn down the lights
