The Background:

One of the many stand-outs from UK singer-songwriter's Myles Smith's 2024 A Minute...EP, ‘Nice to Meet You’ continued the momentum after his break-out hit, ‘Stargazing’. It's been repackaged and re-released in a number of different formats, but none as exciting as this countrified Lainey Wilson duet, which dropped in February 2025. With C2C Festival 2025 around a month away, could we be getting a surprise duet with Smith as part of Lainey Wilson's headlining performance?

The Sound:

‘Nice to Meet You’ features the same stomp-clap, folk-inspired sound of ‘Stargazing’, with Myles Smith's energising vocals coasting along the uplifting instrumental. As always, Lainey Wilson brings her trademark swagger and charisma to her verse, as well as adding in some welcome ad-libs and backing vocals during the crescendo.

The Meaning:

“Lonely in this crowd, I sit alone, ohh-oh
One more drink away from heading home, ohh-oh

Ohh-oh-ohh, I could feel the night slipping by
Ohh-oh-ohh, away from me
And, ohh-oh-ohh, she caught my eye through the light
Then she came right up to me”

‘Nice to Meet You’ opens with a protagonist that is struggling to fit in at a party, with Myles Smith confessing that he's planning on having one more drink before calling it a night. However, just when the narrator's social discomfort and sense of isolation is about to get too much, a woman approaches him out of the blue.

“She said, "Oh, hi, nice to meet you
Tonight, maybe we could
Go dance, get up off our feet"
She said, "This life ain't forever
One song, here together
Then let's play it on repeat"
We could dance, we could dance all night
We could dance 'til the morning light
Let's forget about our worries and the wild world outside
She said, "Oh, hi, nice to meet you
Tonight, maybe we could
Go dance, get up off our feet"
We could dance, we could dance all night”

She invites the protagonist to dance, offering him encouragement by underlining that tomorrow is never promised. The hook captures the carpe diem, live-for-the-moment spirit that permeates this star-studded, genre-blending collaboration.

“He took my hand and led me through the dark, ohh-oh
He said, "Feel the beat, forget that broken heart", ohh-oh

And, ohh-oh-ohh, I can feel the night slipping by
Ohh-oh-ohh, away from me
And, ohh-oh-ohh, I saw the light in his eyes
Glad he came right up to me”

Lainey Wilson keeps her verse the same as Myles Smith's original, except she switches the pronouns from ‘she‘ to ‘he’, giving ‘Nice to Meet You’ a newfound sense of being a dialogue between the two characters in the tale. From Wilson's perspective, however, the male protagonist is the one that's providing the words of motivation.

What have Myles Smith and Lainey Wilson said about ‘Nice to Meet You’?

In the lead-up to its release, Myles Smith underlined how excited he was to have worked with the ‘Hang Tight Honey’ hitmaker, “So pumped to have Nice To Meet You with the incredible Lainey Wilson out next Friday 🤍 Pre-save at the link in bio!” Wilson echoed Smith's warm sentiments, commenting, “Nice to meet ya, Myles Smith!”
