Since 2021's release of Dangerous: The Double Album, Morgan Wallen has been on the fast track to country music superstardom.
Bolstered by 2023's standout record, One Thing At A Time, the Tennessee native has become the biggest name in the format, even infiltrating across genre lines and landing singles atop the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
After a little over two years, the award-winning entertainer has finally arrived with a new batch of music in the form of his 37-track opus, I'm the Problem, arriving May 16 and sprawling with his next era of record-breaking hits and beloved fan-favorites.
Around the middle point of the record sits a spiteful little revenge number called 'Kiss Her In Front Of You.' Where other songs on the album are dripping in grief for lost love and trying to find solace at the bottom of a bottle, this song takes a different approach to dealing with heartbreak.
Produced by the revered trio of Joey Moi, Charlie Handsome and Jacob Durrett, 'Kiss Her In Front Of You' is one of the handful of outside songs Wallen cut on his 37-track collection.
Written by the team of John Byron, Jaxson Free, Ashley Gorley, Taylor Phillips and Ryan Vojtesak, the song takes on Wallen's signature trap-country template with beats and a rap-style cadence flowing across the 3-minute tune.
"Walked out on me like it's nothin'
Swore you would never come runnin' back
Handful of nights I was strugglin'
Drownin' what you did with a fifth of Jack
Girl you moved on quick then you changed your mind, wanna see me tonight, yeah
I found some greener grass and some new blue eyes"
We find our narrator love-scorned as he thinks back on how his ex walked away without a second thought.
While there were a few nights where he was down on his luck and grieving their relationship with his buddy Jack Daniels, he's on the other side of it now and his ex has reared her head again and wants another chance.
Explaining that he's found a new relationship that he's ready to show off, it's shaping up to be a quite a fiery night.
"And I can't wait to kiss her in front of you
I can't wait to put you through the hell that you put me through
Baby I can't wait to see the look on your pretty face, when I break your heart in two
Yeah you know that I
Can't wait to kiss her in front of you
Ooh in front of you"
Taking all of his pain and anger from their breakup, Wallen is ready to shove his new girl in his ex's face.
Looking to show her off and prove just how much happier he is without her, the narrator is looking forward to breaking his ex's heart like she broke his.
"Might be makin' out in the corner
You'll be makin' eyes from across the room
Workin' on a drink I didn't order
Wishin' it was one that I bought for you
It'll tear you up, it'll take you down
Honey right to the ground, yeah
Seein' what you lost, seein' what I found"
Not in the mood to hide how happy he is and spite his ex every chance he gets, he's hoping to hit her where it hurts.
While she watches them in love from across the bar, our narrator is betting on her breaking in two at the thought of what she lost.
"But I can't wait to kiss her in front of you
I can't wait to put you through the hell that you put me through
Baby I can't wait to see the look on your pretty face when I break your heart in two
Yeah you know that I
Just wanna ruin your favorite spot
Act like I don't know you when we head to the parkin' lot
What the hell you thinkin', thinkin' you'd be the only one findin' somebody new
Yeah you know that I
Can't wait to kiss her in front of you, ooh
Yeah I can’t wait to kiss her in front of you, ooh"
As is often the case of late, the ‘Thought You Should Know’ singer-songwriter has so far remained tight-lipped on how the song came about.
However, when revealing the release date for I'm the Problem, Wallen provided fans with an insight into the theme of introspection that courses through the project as a whole.
“I have been a problem, for sure, and I've got no problem admitting that. But there are other sides to me as well," he explained. "I've spent the last 11 months really trying to figure out, 'Do I still want to be the problem? Is it time to move past that phase in my life? I think it probably is, and this might be the last time I get a chance to honestly say it.”
