Following the massive cultural moment that was Shaboozey and BigXthaPlug's 2024 collaboration, 'Drink Don't Need No Mix', the pair have joined forces one more time. What has resulted is 'Home', a genre-blending anthem that’s rooted in both longing, regret and the open road.
The song arrives just in time for the heat of the summer, pulling in fans from all over–proof that both artists and their trademark sounds make the track what it is. Shaboozey’s folk-inflected melodies and BigX’s southern drawl show off but holds that neither artist overpowers the other. They instead complement one another, carving out a song that feels like it could play just as well through the car speakers as it could on a festival stage.
Less about the physical place and more about emotional return, ‘Home’ is further evidence that, when placed together, the two hitmakers can do no wrong. Their latest offering is vulnerable, catchy and built for late-night drives with the windows down.
The track opens with a stripped-down intro, led by acoustic strings and an echoing “highway, highway” refrain from Shaboozey that feels like a prayer. The beat stays minimal throughout the verse–soft claps, spacious guitar and ambient textures let the pain in his voice breathe.
Then BigXthaPlug enters and the energy shifts. Trap kicks and snares drop in, not to overwhelm but to give his confessional verse weight and tension. His cadence is urgent, conversational, like someone rehearsing an apology in the mirror.
Still, the chorus is where ‘Home’ truly sticks. Repeated with the subtle melodic changes, it’s a hook that wears vulnerability like armor–simple, raw and unforgettable.
On its surface, ‘Home’ is a song about love lost and the ache of wanting to return. But under the hood, it’s more than that–it’s a plea for forgiveness and a reckoning with the past.
In the first verse, Shaboozey sings:
“Last thing you’ll see is smoke, ‘cause I’m movin’ on / You took all the love I gave and left me all alone.”
He’s not just reflecting, he’s reacting, torn between pride and pain. The highway becomes a symbol of escape, freedom and regret all at once.
Then comes BigXthaPlug, detailing the fallout from his own choice:
“I ran away from my problems, I know / Now I’m stuck on this highway with nowhere to go.”
It’s a rare moment of honesty, where ego steps aside and accountability takes the wheel. He remembers the love he took for granted and the promises broken.
By the time the third verse rolls in, there’s a shift.
“Fill up my tank with the thought of you in it / On the road, tryna race to you, dodging these tickets.”
He’s not just wandering anymore, he’s headed somewhere. Maybe back to her, or even back to himself.
Together, Shaboozey and BigXthaPlug make ‘Home’ a story of two guys trying to find their way–not geographically but emotionally. And in that sense, its one of the most resonant songs of the summer.
[Intro: Shaboozey]
(Highway, highway)
[Verse 1: Shaboozey]
Last thing you'll see is smoke, 'cause I'm movin' on
You took all the love I gave and left me all alone
I'm treadin' on this road, somewhere far from home
I'm puttin' all I had and I paid every goddamn toll
I'm tryna make it off this
[Chorus: Shaboozey]
Highway, highway
Oh, won't you take me home for a minute?
I swear it won't be long
Highway, highway
Oh, won't you take me home for a minute?
It's lonely on this road
[Verse 2: BigXthaPlug]
I've been lost on this highway, tryna figure out life on this road
I lost all the love that I had in my soul, tryna chase everything that was shiny and gold
I ran away from my problems, I know now I'm stuck on this highway with nowhere to go
One day, if I call back, will I get to come home?
If I promise to write everything that I wronged?
But this road kinda bumpy, take all, yeah, my bank ain't defund me
I know there's times you had told me you love me
I tripped out, I see why you called me a dummy
Now I'm stuck in the worst place
Shouldn't have played with your heart in the first place
Yes, I still do remember our first date
Had you smilin' like it was your birthday
But I must say
[Chorus: Shaboozey]
Highway, highway
Oh, won't you take me home for a minute?
I swear it won't be long
Highway, highway
Oh, won't you take me home for a minute?
It's lonely on this road
[Verse 3: BigXthaPlug]
Ey, I get it, I get it, I get it
I lost all was meant but your vision was bigger
Alone on this highway, your spirit, I feel it
I admit that when I said your love was the biggest
Fill up my tank with the thoughts of you in it
On the road, tryna race to you, dodging these tickets
For kisses, just hoping’ to fulfill your wishes
I'll listen, I'm on the road back to your city
[Chorus: Shaboozey]
Highway, highway
Oh, won't you take me home for a minute?
I swear it won't be long
Highway, highway
Oh, won't you take me home for a minute?
It's lonely on this road
[Outro: Shaboozey]
(Higway, highway)
