Zach Top was the first act to heat up the main stage at Two Step Inn on Saturday (April 20), setting a near impossible precedent for the country-fueled afternoon that followed.
The quickly emerging star – armed with his dreamy drawl and '90s flair – delivered a nostalgia-riddled set, one that crackled with a jukebox spirit and abounded with that boot-scootin’ feeling of old. Over the course of his all-too-brief 45 minute set, Top rattled off his latest standards-in-the-making while also covering the classics that first informed his familiar – but somehow still fresh – sound.
When he took the stage, donning a seemingly signature denim-on-denim ensemble, he immediately launched into his neon-flecked 'Sounds Like the Radio', it quickly becoming evident that the good times were upon us. He flexed his knee-weakening croon over the course of a dozen songs, flaunting lovable originals like 'The Kinda Woman I Like', 'Cowboys Like Me Do' and 'Use Me' in the perfect live setting.
A truly firecracker show, Top's performance demonstrated his already well-developed skills as bandleader and hinted at what's still to come from the country showman. Amongst his own, already buzzing hits, Top even took the time to reinterpret a little Chris Stapleton, with his own cover of the country crooner's Traveller classic 'Nobody To Blame'.
Fresh off of his already widely applauded debut album Cold Beer & Country Music, the 25-year-old Washington native has been dubbed the future of country music. Well, we’ve got news for you, kids. The future has arrived.
On the Two Step Inn stage, Top firmly established himself as no longer a newcomer, staking his claim among the who’s who of country music.
