Our anticipation for the new Zach Bryan album is really cranking up now, folks.
After having released 'Pink Skies', his first official new music since the Boys of Faith EP last year, the Oklahoman is treating us to another taste of his forthcoming The Great American Bar Scene album, with another coloured-hued title, this time in the form of 'Purple Gas'.
Writing to social media, Bryan stated: "Everybody, I am making a fan sourced video for Noeline Hofmann's song we sang for my new album, The Great American Bar Scene, like we did for 'Something in the Orange'.
"I like doing these," Bryan continued, "because it makes me feel so much more connected to the people that listen to my music".
The song was originally written by Alberta, Canada native Hofmann, who first went viral with the song after having recorded a verse and shared it across her social media. The song blew up on TikTok, securing over 280,000 views on her channel, including one from a certain Mr Bryan.
Enamoured with the song, Bryan invited Hofmann to record the song as part of his Belting Bronco Live Session Series on YouTube. Amassing over 320,000 views and counting, the video found Hofmann performing the song from the back of Bryan's now famous Ford Bronco, trailing up dirt hills as she performed it alongside a beautifully mournful fiddle.
At the same time, Bryan was consistently teasing new music of his own, sharing snippets and workings of song ideas to TikTok and Instagram, while either at home with the dogs or back out on the road closing out his arena tour. It's there he began to drip feed us information about official new releases, confirming that the new album would be indeed entitled The Great American Bar Scene.
In was here, in a previous statement on socials, that Bryan shared that Hofmann would be appearing on this forthcoming album, suggesting that the pair had recorded a duet rendition of the song.
Talking about the song on Instagram, Bryan expressed, "This song brought me to tears the first time I heard it so it was really important for me that Noeline gave me the privilege to sing it with her. Noeline resonates like Gillian Welch to me and Gillian is one of my favourite musicans to ever live; now Noeline is, too".
"I have never covered another musician on an album and it's because I was waiting on someone to write a song like this," Bryan added.
The 'Revival' hitmaker is requesting fans to send "anything ya'll want," including "hometown, farmland, American centered, midwestern, western style footage" to this link, with the added note of: "we will not be picky".
