Shania Twain recently took to Instagram to confirm she's working on her seventh studio album, and we're hoping the Canadian megastar will treat us to new music this summer.
In the contemplative post, which featured a photo of Shania Twain heading to a writing session with her guitar, the ‘You're Still the One’ hitmaker candidly reflected on the challenges she faces in a music industry that tends to prioritise younger acts, and gives female artists in their 50's and 60's less visibility and support.
Shania began by shedding some light on the creative process for her eagerly anticipated Queen of Me follow-up record, “Papped by my own husband on the way to what turned out to be a great writing session! I’ve been lucky enough to find a little pocket of time to hide away and spend a little while putting down the ideas that have been spinning around in my head since the last album. Funny to hear your own thoughts, feelings and day dreams being realised into actual songs”.
The ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman!’ icon expanded, “As I head into my 60th journey around the sun and my 7th studio album I know that this world isn’t systemically built to nurture a woman of my age releasing music BUT I feel more in tune with myself than ever – strong, inspired and full of creative energy. Thank you to my fans who stay with me through the process, you are my inspiration”.
Excitingly, Shania Twain also revealed in a March interview with Us Weekly that she is working on a new album, sharing that she's been utilising her time away from the road to create.
Shania kicks off her 2025 run of shows early next month, with dates on the books in Montana, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New York, Florida and more throughout the summer.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, it's worth stressing there's no word yet on a release date for Shania Twain's next album, but we're keeping everything crossed that we might get a teaser before she kicks off her tour in just a few weeks on July 2nd.
The country trailblazer's loyal fans have become accustomed to lengthy gaps in-between releases, especially while Shania recovered from Lyme Disease and split from her husband during a tumultuous period in the 2000's and early 2010's, with the ‘That Don't Impress Me Much’ crooner making her comeback in 2017 with Now.
Six years later, we got Queen of Me, which again showcased Shania Twain's willingness to push boundaries that previously stood between country, pop, dance and more.
It's only been a couple of years since Queen of Me, but we're nonetheless manifesting that we might be getting a taste of Shania's next studio album before the year is out.
Shania has been making a slew of guest appearances in recent years, linking up with the likes of Anne-Marie, Yung Gravy, BRELAND and The Stylistics, and she referenced working with some “musical people” in her Us Weekly interview. As a result, we suspect her forthcoming record might feature a few special guest appearances.
Either way, let's not forget this is Shania Twain we're talking about, so whatever she has up her sleeve for her next chapter, rest assured it will be another stellar body of work - and we can't wait to hear more from one of the genre's most influential figures.
