It's official, Mumford & Sons are back.
The beloved folk trailblazers are returning with their first album in seven years, RUSHMERE, with the project arriving on March 28th. The title-track is released tomorrow (January 17th).
RUSHMERE, which appears to have been named after London's Rushmere Pond, will be Mumford & Sons’ debut studio project as a trio, after their banjoist Winston Marshall, departed the band in 2022 after expressing support for a book written by right-wing journalist, Andy Ngo. Marshall explained, “I know now that, as long as I am a member of the band, speaking my mind on the evils of political extremism could bring them trouble. My loyalty and love for them cannot permit that”.
RUSHMERE follows Mumford & Sons’ celebrated live project, Gentlemen of the Road (Live), which arrived in September 2024 and ensured the anticipation remained high ahead of the group's impending album announcement. Now, thankfully, after a slew of teasers and cryptic clues, Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane have confirmed they have a brand new 10-song studio effort up their sleeves.
RUSHMERE will feature an array of never-heard-before offerings, including ‘Monochrome’, ‘Where It Belongs’, ‘Caroline’ and a duet with California singer-songwriter, Madison Cunningham, ‘Blood On The Page’. Mumford & Sons’ 2024 Pharrell Williams collaboration, ‘Good People’, does not appear on the RUSHMERE tracklist.
Mumford & Sons have underlined how much they're looking forward to releasing this record out into the world, with the chart-topping group sharing a montage of clips from the creation of the Dave Cobb-helmed RUSHMERE across socials.
They revealed, “our new album “RUSHMERE” will be released march 28th, first single out friday....co-produced with our legendary friend [Dave Cobb]...we’re excited about this one, first”.
Mumford & Sons have been at the forefront of the global folk scene for over a decade, with the band possessing iconic, multi-Platinum hits such as ‘I Will Wait’ and ‘Little Lion Man’. In 2022, Marcus Mumford released his widely lauded debut solo album, (self-titled), before linking back up with the band to craft RUSHMERE.
