Oh, we're so back.
A couple of months after sharing the official trailer for Y:Marshals, the latest Yellowstone spin-off from Taylor Sheridan, we now have a release date for the keenly awaited series.
The blockbuster opening season of Y:Marshals will commence on Sunday, March 1st 2026 on CBS. Y:Marshals will star Luke Grimes, who reprises his beloved role as Kayce Dutton, the reluctant heir to the Dutton family's Yellowstone dynasty. According to the accompanying press release, in Y:Marshals Season 1, Kayce will join “an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence”.
Disappointingly, Kayce's wife, Monica, is not due to appear in the series, with Kelsey Asbille not included in the cast for the forthcoming season. It remains to be seen how Sheridan has written Monica out, but we're hoping she and Kayce don't split up, after the rollercoaster ride they've experienced so far in the main Yellowstone series.
A number of favourites from Yellowstone will be returning in Y:Marshals, though, including Tate, Kayce's son (Brecken Merrill), along with Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater) and Mo Brings Plenty (himself). We're keeping our fingers crossed that Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) might make a cameo at some point, especially given the fact that these two have been confirmed as coming back for their own Yellowstone spin-off, titled Dutton Ranch.
Another unanswered question is whether the Y:Marshals soundtrack will follow the Yellowstone and Landman blueprint of incorporating a host of high-profile country chart-toppers, or whether it'll be more cinematic and score-based, like 1883 and 1923.
For Yellowstone, for instance, viewers were treated to an array of country and Americana gems over the course of the five seasons, with the likes of Zach Bryan, Lainey Wilson and Turnpike Troubadours even making on-screen appearances.
We have to assume, as well, that Grimes himself will contribute some offerings to the Y:Marshals soundtrack, with the ‘No Horse To Ride’ singer-songwriter continuing to cement himself as a respected country artist, as well as a prolific Hollywood actor.
