Waxahatchee performed ‘Lilacs’ live on Jimmy Kimmel Tuesday night (9/2).

Making their debut performance on a late night show, the song is from their 2020 record ‘Saint Cloud’, their fifth studio album.

Katie Crutchfield, who named the group after Waxahatchee Creek in Alabama where she grew up, described the albums main themes as addiction and codependency.

All 11 tracks on the record, including ‘Lilacs’, were written by Crutchfield.

The album reached number 2 on the US Folk chart and even found its way to Scotland, peaking inside the top 30 of the Scottish Albums Chart.

‘Lilacs’ was the first single to be released off the record back in February 2020 and landed in the top 40 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart.

The album has produced the subsequent single ‘Can’t Do Much’, but touring plans for the record were put on hold due to the pandemic.

However, Crutchfield began to do a series of live concert streamings, each one including all the songs off each of her studio albums.

This was an attempt to reach out to her fanbase and generate an income, which has proved to be successful.
