The Castellows moved players to tears with their haunting US National Anthem performance at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, ahead of the Atlanta Falcons’ 38-44 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
The Georgia trio have become renowned throughout the country music world for their sleek, faultless harmonies, showcased on stand-outs such as ‘Miss America’ and ‘No. 7 Road’.
The Castellows - comprising sisters Lily, Powell and Eleanor Balkcom - put their striking harmonic abilities on full display throughout their ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ performance, with the band eschewing heavy instrumentation and accompaniments in favour of letting the spotlight fall deservingly on their stellar, enchanting vocals.
Over the past year, The Castellows have cemented themselves as future stars in Music City, with the three prodigies dropping their acclaimed Alabama Stone EP shortly before Christmas.
The band are currently readying a highly anticipated collaboration with Flatland Cavalry, ‘Place They Call Home’, with fans hoping The Castellows release this link-up in the coming weeks.
Country music has had a hot-and-cold relationship with the US National Anthem in the past few years, with Chris Stapleton's 2023 Super Bowl offering going down as one of the best ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ renditions in recent memory, while the likes of Ingrid Andress and Warren Zeiders have drawn flak for their takes on the anthem.
Unfortunately, despite their impressive performance of the US National Anthem, The Castellows weren't able to impart any good luck to the Atlanta Falcons as they battled the Carolina Panthers in a closely fought NFC South match-up. After the Panthers’ resounding defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in late December, the Falcons will have been fancying their chances against Dave Canales’ team. It wasn't meant to be, however, with the Falcons falling six points shy of The Panthers.
