If, like us, you've been counting down the days until Olivia Ellen Lloyd's new album, Do It Myself, is released then here's a little tipple to keep you going until the toasting tomorrow.
After releasing the beautiful album opener, 'You,' last week, we're delighted to be able to share a very special performance video of the song filmed at the legendary Jalopy Theatre in New York. An old favourite of Holler's had a hand in helping the song come about too.
"I wrote this song in a School of Song workshop led by Courtney Marie Andrews, and I feel really indebted to her for the great songwriting advice and prompts she dispensed during that course," she shared. "Mike Robinson and I finished it together in the studio and I think it is one of the best songs I've ever written."
Grappling with heavy questions - like what does it mean to be liberated under oppressive forces, how do we honour our rage without giving into despair, and how do we leverage both self-reliance and community in a world that seeks to isolate and disempower us - Do It Myself is filled with some of the most beautiful protest music you'll ever hear, so it's fitting that Olivia Ellen Lloyd chose the Jalopy Theatre in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY, to perform in.
A pillar of New York City’s fertile roots music scene, the Jalopy Theater is a scene unto itself, and has been the cornerstone of the bluegrass, old-time country and folk music, and a home away from home for musicians and songwriters since 2006 with its school of music and arts space showcasing evolving traditional music and art from all over the world.

"We filmed some live sessions at the incredible Jalopy Theatre, which is a true haven and community for Americana and roots musicians in New York City," Olivia Ellen Lloyd shared. "They are also producing my record release show at Public Records in Brooklyn on March 29th."
Do It Myself is released on Wright Lloyd Records on March 21
