Tyler Halverson has offered up a stellar three-song set as part of his Holler Nashville Session, presented by Montucky Cold Snacks, with the South Dakota singer-songwriter treating viewers to acoustic renditions of ‘Mac Miller’, ‘Closer’ and ‘New Loop’.
Halverson is one of the most exciting new voices in the rowdier outer edges of the classic country landscape, with the self-professed Western Amerijuana Music artist citing the likes of Garth Brooks, Hayes Carll and George Strait as his primary influences.
‘Mac Miller’ serves as the keystone of his Holler Nashville Session, presented by Montucky Cold Snacks, which was recorded at Music City's picturesque Riverside Revival venue.
The addictively rugged, laid-back track finds Tyler Halverson regaling the listener with an outlaw love-story, which opens with the protagonist and his partner-in-crime jamming to late rapper Mac Miller while smoking ‘cowboy killers’ - or rather, Marlboro Red cigarettes. At the end, Halverson endearingly pays homage to Miller, who passed away in 2018 at the age of just 26, remarking, ‘RIP to M-A-C’.
‘Closer’ is similarly enchanting, with Tyler Halverson telling a more wholesome tale of romance as he expresses his disbelief at how a short-term fling has blossomed into a loving, committed relationship (“It started with come over / Now it's let's go home / I give her every night I can / 'Cause I can't sleep alone”). Halverson's rasp combines with the energising strum of his acoustic guitar and harmonica, to add a fresh sheen of tenderness and warmth to the much-loved 2024 single.
Completing the trio of performances is ‘New Loop’, Tyler Halverson's high-profile contribution to the blockbuster 2024 Twisters: The Movie soundtrack. Halverson was joined on the star-studded record by A-listers such as Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Tucker Wetmore, Kane Brown, Tyler Childers, Miranda Lambert and various others.
‘New Loop’ captures Tyler Halverson's penchant for an old-school cowboy aesthetic, while simultaneously showcasing the country crooner's ear for an infectious, contemporary melody.
Tyler Halverson recorded his Holler Nashville Session, presented by Montucky Cold Snacks, earlier this year, with the videos directed by Neilson Hubbard and produced by Ross Jones.
