Margo Price recently announced her return to country music by way of her upcoming album, Hard Headed Woman.
The 12-track collection, set for release on Aug. 29, will feature the artist at her boldest and bravest as she rehones her songwriting and rediscovers her musical roots. To help her in that endeavor is a couple of fellow alt-country songmasters.
Beloved singer-songwriter Tyler Childers and sharp topical artist Jesse Welles were recruited for the project, assisting Price with the numbers 'Love Me Like You Used To Do' and 'Don’t Wake Me Up' respectively.
"It's just been so much fun to collaborate with other musicians that I admire so much," Price tells Holler of the duets while in Nashville for CMA Fest.
Price has long been acquainted with both artists, appearing as the voice of a heavenly angel on Childers' 'Luke 2:8-10' and playing the same stages as Welles, a fellow Farm Aid staple. However, the forthcoming release will mark the first time Price has officially collaborated with either musician.
While in conversation with Holler, Price discussed a little of what fans can expect from the new album. Hard Headed Woman will not only mark the artist's return to country, but also a reunion with the basics.
"I was with my band for over a decade, and we were treading in some kind of psychedelic rock territory," Price says. "There was just a lot going on, and so I just kind of stripped back the sound and fell in love with country songs again."
As Price takes listeners on a voyage through her life's ups and downs, as well as her career highs and lows, a brilliant message of resilience is meant to resound through much of the album.
"It's been really cathartic to write songs about the journey that I've been on and where I'm going," she adds.
