"I'd say it reminds me of the good ol' days, but this shit's better," Turnpike Troubadours frontman, Evan Felker, told the crowd at Two Step Inn on Sunday night (April 21). Audience members were chanting Turnpike Troubadours’ name in unison in-between the band's hit-packed set when the frontman offered those wistful words.
The roots rockers headlined the Texas festival, delivering a career-spanning showcase to close out the event's final night. From their opening tune 'Shreveport' to the farewell ballad 'Pay No Rent', their set brimmed with unforgettable moments as the country-Americana stalwarts pulled from their expansive catalogue of hits.
The performance was an instant hand-clapping, boot-stomping hoedown, the setlist carefully crafted with fans old and new in mind. Over the course of an hour and a half, favorites like 'Every Girl', 'Before the Devil Knows We're Dead', and 'Good Lord Lorrie' tumbled through the mouths of nearly everyone in attendance.
Evan Felker let the group's well-loved lyrics do most of the talking, allowing festival-goers to relive the band's last two decades - and also look forward to the next.
