The Lumineers’ Wesley Schultz Pens Tender New Song, ‘This Heart Of Mine’, For Netflix's Virgin River Season 6

As the anticipation continues to build ahead of the long-awaited sixth instalment in Netflix's beloved Virgin River series, Wesley Schultz has released a sweet, intricate new song written especially for the forthcoming season, titled ‘This Heart Of Mine’.

Schultz is known most prominently for his role as one half of chart-topping duo, The Lumineers, but has leant his sought-after solo pen to a number of stellar, folk-leaning tracks in recent months, such as Michael Marcagi's ‘Good Enough’. ‘This Heart Of Mine’ captures the New Jersey singer-songwriter's ability to gently tug on the heartstrings while still creating a peaceful, rose-tinted atmosphere.

Endearingly, it's evident that ‘This Heart Of Mine’ was not a generic love-song that Schultz has tried to shoehorn into the Virgin River soundtrack, as the evocative offering contains a slew of subtle references to key plot-points in Robyn Carr's moving story. For instance, he tips his cap to the pivotal scene when Mel's car breaks down early on in the series, as well as the moment she goes camping with Jack.

First airing in 2019, Virgin River follows medical practitioner, Mel Monroe, as she abruptly leaves her life in Los Angeles to the bucolic, close-knit Virgin River following a personal tragedy. Although stemming from a desire to escape her pain, Mel unintentionally finds a new sense of home, love and much more as the endearing - and often highly complicated - community of Virgin River come together around her.

The sixth season of Virgin River arrives on Netflix on December 19th, with Season 5 drawing in a colossal 35.8 million viewers and 331 million hours of viewing. The latest instalment in the cosy, romantic series is expected to bring in even higher figures.

Although there are occasional caffeinated curveballs thrown into the Virgin River soundtrack, such as when Mel cathartically dances across her kitchen to Lizzo, generally, the music you hear on the show leans towards peaceful, country-inspired textures.

These mirror the beautiful pastoral scenery shots that Virgin River has become known for, showcasing the expansive pine forests and serene, glass-like lakes that permeate the town.

It remains to be seen whether we'll get to experience Wesley Schultz’s ‘This Heart Of Mine’ as part of an actual scene in Virgin River Season 6, or whether it's simply been released as a promotional single to help add to the buzz ahead of the show's release. Either way, it's safe to say this spellbinding track gives us yet another reason to look forward to the latest chapter in Netflix's hit series - as if we needed one.
