During his new discussion with Holler, Koe Wetzel has delved into his longstanding friendship with ‘Blue Strips’ hitmaker, Jessie Murph, as well as teasing what fans can expect from his momentous Stagecoach Festival debut this weekend.
The Texas native teamed up with Murph at Coachella to perform their fiery break-up anthem, ‘High Road’, which has blossomed into the biggest song in both artist's discographies. In December, the duet surged to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart, spending a staggering five weeks at the pinnacle, and at the time of writing, ‘High Road’ sits at 190 million streams on Spotify alone.
However, somewhat bizarrely, when Koe Wetzel and Jessie Murph first started teasing the collaboration, Murph caught some unwarranted flak from Wetzel's die-hard fanbase.
The ‘Gucci Mane’ crooner alluded to this when introducing her ‘High Road’ collaborator at Coachella, with the duo then showcasing exactly why they work so well together, with Wetzel's gravelly delivery complementing Murph's sleek, enchanting vocals.
Sitting down with Holler in the lead-up to Stagecoach, Koe Wetzel reflects on his electrifying appearance at Coachella a couple of weeks ago, gushing, “Coachella was awesome! I've always wanted to go and it was my first Coachella experience”.
The ‘Sweet Dreams’ singer-songwriter amusingly recalls that his attention lay elsewhere moments before joining forces with Jessie Murph, “It was right after Rory McIlory had won the Masters. We were actually walking up to the stage and I was watching him make the putt so it was great. The weather was awesome. The vibes were awesome. I've always dreamt of taking some MDMA or Molly or something at Coachella. I didn't get to do that, unfortunately, but we still had a great time”.
Koe Wetzel goes on to pay tribute to Jessie Murph, “Jessie's awesome. We've been friends for a few years now, so to have her be a part of a song that was special to me, and for that song to do what it did, was really cool. I can't thank Jessie enough”.
Koe Wetzel concludes by underlining that he believes Jessie Murph is on track to achieve greatness, before heartwarmingly stressing that he'll be cheering her on at every step, “She's a badass and she's on her way to superstardom. I can't wait to see where her career goes and I'm psyched for everything she's got coming”.
Given the momentum currently behind Murph and the fervent response that has greeted her latest singles, ‘Gucci Mane’ and ‘Blue Strips’, you can't help but agree with Wetzel.
The same, of course, is true of Koe Wetzel's own trajectory, with the country-rock trailblazer drawing widespread plaudits for his 2024 9 Lives studio album and continuing to cement himself as one of modern country's next stadium-fillers-in-waiting. Koe Wetzel's blockbuster set at Stagecoach Festival 2025 will consolidate this, and with Wetzel confirming to Holler that he has some special guests up his sleeve, we'll be keeping our fingers crossed Jessie Murph is due to return the favour from Coachella and hit the stage for ‘High Road’ on Saturday, April 26th.
