After his wistful song, ‘Better Year’, was featured in the latest episode of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, Sam Barber surprised fans by releasing a special live version of the track.
The yearning ‘Better Year’ can be heard in the new instalment of Yellowstone, ‘Give the World Away’, which aired last night (Sunday, December 8th) via the Paramount Network.
The final chapter of Taylor Sheridan's neo-Western show continues to steam towards its dramatic conclusion, with the plot pivoting around the Dutton family's attempts to recover following the shock death of their patriarch, Kevin Costner's John Dutton.
When excitedly announcing ‘Better Year’ would be appearing in Yellowstone, Sam Barber casually revealed in his Instagram comments that he'd be dropping a live version captured in Montana on streaming platforms following the episode's release.
The arrival of ‘Better Year - Live’ on DSPs has been accompanied by a performance video, recorded on a Montana mountaintop. Given the fact that Yellowstone is filmed in Big Sky Country, it seems this track was aptly captured near to the Dutton Ranch.
The original studio recording of ‘Better Year’ appears on Sam Barber's debut album, Restless Mind, which dropped at the start of November, and has spawned the Missouri singer-songwriter's viral duet with fellow country prodigy, Avery Anna, ‘Indigo’.
The inclusion of ’Better Year’ consolidates Yellowstone's commitment to spotlighting the brightest sparks to emerge in the country music landscape, with Taylor Sheridan and the show's Music Supervisor, Andrea Von Foerster, working closely together to give a welcome boost to the likes of Zach Bryan, Colter Wall, Whiskey Myers, Lainey Wilson, Flatland Cavalry and Shane Smith & The Saints during the series.
This season, you can hear Colter Wall's ‘For a Long While’, Larry Fleet's ‘Highway Feet’, Chris Stapleton's ‘Hard Livin’, Charles Wesley Godwin's ‘Temporary Town’ and more.
